140 DSG MPG

Hi everyone. Does anyone else notice that they get more MPG when using the DSG in 'manual mode', than when it is in 'Auto' mode, or is it just me ...?
I can safely say that others than a 2 min try on the day that I bought it I have never had my car in manual mode. Though as I don't have paddles on the steering wheel that may be why I haven't tried it again.
I get around 52-54mpg out of my 140 DSG in full auto (just D not S).
