In terms of mods there are lots of possibilities, it really depends on what you are expecting from them:
Bodywork (looks)
- clean looks (de banging front/rear);
Suspension/rims/Mechanical stuff (handling):
- lowering springs/coilovers (the standard rocco has an almost suv arch gap);
- after market rims (lots of possibilities);
- alloy wishbones with adjustable ball joints (awesome upgrade in terms of steering feel);
- limited slip differential;
- short shifter (it shortens the distances between gears - for manual gearbox);
Engine/exhaust (power)
- remap (gain of approx. 30-40 more hp);
- after market exhaust (resonated/ non resonated);
- after market induction kit;
Lighting (functional/looks):
- facelift front xenon headlights upgrade (if you don't have them already)

And the list can go on forever :))
Cheers

I've always wondered why the gap is just SO big? Is it to wedge the car? Did VW make the boot so deep so we can fill it with bricks? Or lead?

Its hard to know for sure :), could be a compromise choice between sport/comfort level, overall ride clearance and common vw parts that they could use :)
Since i could not bare the huge arch gap, i have lowered mine with oem lowering springs. Problem is that now i cannot use it everywhere i go, so started to look for alternatives:
- Kw hls kit looks great, but is too pricy.
- Air ride performance kit could be a solution, but again very pricy.
- bigger wheels to compensate ride height loss, but again not much room to change things: i have done some calculation on mine (235/45r17 with et35 rims), when front is fully turned and on incline, there is room for maximum 1cm in the back of the front wheel.
That means that cannot go with a higher tire (approx. 1.1 cm gain in height with a 235/50r17), the best i could do is go with a wider one which should gave a 0.6cm increased height :)... so many problems, just to reduce that stupid arch gap :))

Welcome to the Scirocco club, Highly recommend Eibach Pro-Kit, perfect ride height as it can still go over speed bumps and does not compromise ride. Buy direct from Germany for about £120 DHL'd to your door, my mechanic fitted and re-tracked (req'd) for £140. I also change the VW badges to black one and repainted the 19" lugano's dark metallic grey, everybody comments on the look of the car. Not sure how to attach a picture!
