Hi guys. Wanting to see if anyone had encountered an issue in having and it's really annoying- a scratching noise coming from behind the steering wheel when moving the steering wheel in any direction, engine on or off, so must be something with the wheel itself, sounds like a wired clicking scratching sound but it is slowly stealing my sanity. Not being brave enough to remove all the trim and go hunting just yet thought I'd ask if anyone else had experienced this?

Exact same problem for me - creaking noise from the wheel itself turning it in any direction. Did you manage to get to the bottom of it?

No not yet. Next time I get service or anything I'll ask them to take steering wheel off I think and have a look.

Let me know if u find out before I do what it is. I'm sure it's something silly like a bracket rubbing on the plastic but till the steering wheel comes off won't know

I had this happen! Eventually the clockspring/steering angle sensor snapped and my steering wheel controls and air bag stopped working.. The unit is about 250 pound to replace and program I believe, the noise you're hearing is debris/dirt, grinding through the clock Spring I think... Or that's what happened to me.. Hopefully it'll be something more simple for you guys

So if we have it taken apart and cleaned out do u think it will solve the issue or is this likely the clock Spring broken needing replacing? I'd better get this looked at then I guess whilst still under warranty

If you don't have an airbag light on, it's worth talking to someone about it, I'm not sure you can split the clockspring unit, I know mines gone and the whole thing needs replacing, but if you're under warranty you'll be alright

I'll ring the warranty company Monday and see what they say (que wear and tear argument at 22k miles )

Best of luck! They'll do anything to wriggle out of stuff!

I predict the warranty company will say "it has not failed therefore it is not covered"

Probably right cuprabob but I'm thinking prevention better than cure so I'll give it a pop and see what they say
