REVS GTS BUILD THREAD

Thought I would start my own thread so everything I do is in one place like some others on here have done. I find this forum extremely useful for advice and ideas and am pleased to be part of it.

First post is my first Roc which is gone now but thought it was a good starting point for this new thread. Did the usual LED's etc and kept her in pristine condition but other than fitting a K&N panel filter and updating the RNS510 firmware and maps to get seven digit postcode there were no other mods done.

Bought her off a lovely fella called Jon Newsome at Auto Marques in Sheffield, a former professional footballer retired through injury who is now following his passion for cars. He took my first Roc in part exchange and was amazed what condition it was in for being over six years old.

Then it was time for her first wash and polish the week after I had picked her up and you can see where the REVS name came from

Started thinking about mods and first job was to change all the bulbs. Rear courtesy, map lights, glove box, boot and vanity mirror bulbs all changed to white LED, red footwell LED's, Xtec superwhire cornering H7's and LED P21W's for DRL's, then the corner sidelights fitted with w5w LED's with resistors. Here the new headlight set up

Don't want to do everything all at once as I will have nothing left to potter with so next jobs on the list are:

1 - Lowering springs obviously, H&R or Eibach
2 - GTS front grille badge off new model
3 - Red pin strip around the front grille
4 - Maybe GTS badge at the end of 'scirocco' on the rear
5 - Black calliper paint on the disc edges, hub and rear shields
6 - Induction kit maybe

Want to wait until warranty expired though before I do anything too drastic

They are the factory xenons with these to replace the P21w as the DRL to the right of the xenon

These are the cornering H7 bulbs between the above and the xenon:

These are the corner LED's:

And these are the resistors on the corner LED's:

Thanks mate

So did you already have xenons in your car ?
Is the first link for the inside light, like when you put the high beam on?
The second link is for the bulb towards the outside of the car that are on all the time?
And the third and fourth links have to be bought together, and this is for the small light just above the fog light ?

I don't have xenons so would these still be ok ?

Cheers,
Callum

Yes, xenons from factory, 1st link is the bulb to the inside of the xenon which with xenons is the drl and on during the day on auto setting, no other lights are on though. These wont work with halogens though as they are LED's to replace the P21W and there are none of those in the halogen lights. 2nd link is cornering bulbs which are between the above P21W and the xenon but again you don't have these with halogen lights but the H7 bulbs can be used for your dipped and main beams and are a whiter colour than stock. 3rd & 4th go together and allow the corner sidelights to work without errors but on the xenon set up I have the corner lights are only on at night with the xenons.

Do you have a link to a guide that you used to update the RNS firmware and maps? I have spent hours looking but nothing is definitive and on other forums it all descends in to a discussion rather than a guide.
Car looks awesome! I miss having Xenons!

Is it not in my posts somewhere? I did loads of research and bought a version 7 maps disc off ebay for £10 as this is the minimum version needed to get seven digit postcodes. I then went through the info on firmware upgrading from the Gti forum, found what model unit i had by types avialable for my year of car (didnt need to remove the head unit) found the latest firmware for 7 digits that was compatible with my unit, downloaded it from the Gti forum, burnt it onto a disc then put it in the slot and sat for an hour with crossed fingers. Everything worked a treat and no issues. I am not that hot with computers either and it was really easy.
