Anyone know the best way to remove the passenger side front manual seat? I can see the bolts on the seat runners but don't have a socket that fits this. It's like a torx but with alot more splines. Also if you disconnect the seat electrics/seat belt pretensioners will it bring a fault light on?

a few guys with mkv gtis have swapped seats and noticed they get an airbag error (from side airbags not being connected)

Without actually looking at the seat bolts i'd guess they are likely XZN spline heads bolts. VW use them in various places across the range.

I recently replaced my Drivers Side seat cover base, after an unfortunate wallpaper scraper incident

, picked up a set of spline sockets that fit all of the bolts on the seat from Machine Mart for about £16.

did you have any bother with the airbag lights? did you disconnect the wiring under the seat ?

Completely removed the drivers seat and took it into the garage to fit the new cover - disconnected the ISO connectors under the seat (3 in total if memory serves), completely removed the wiring loom from the botom of the seat for fitting the new cover then replaced it all, no problems with air bag lights, just made sure everything was connected before I turned the ignition on again. Hope hat helps.

did you disconnect the battery first? i'm surprised you didn't get a fault
also what torque did you use for refitting the bolts on the seat runners?

You won't get a fault unless you turn the ignition on with it disconnected.
when you turn on the ecu's go through a self test routine to check everything is ok, and will throw a fault code if the air bags are disconnected.
If you disconnect, do what you're doing and then lug back in the car won't throw a code.

Maybe he's got a really big passenger that won't fit?
