Scirocco Central

Hi all!

Got my second child inbound as the Mrs is due in September, also have a dog but I'm not going to give in and get a 'Dad' car like an estate or anything. I'm sure I can make things work by getting a roof box for the Rocco.

Am I mad or does anyone else see my logic?

VW have quoted me around £600 for the bespoke roof bars and box (including special designed spoiler) which is cheaper than buying a bigger car.

At the end of the day if I had an estate and had the dog in the boot then that means I can't really put anything else in the boot incase the dog hurt himself on it so would have to get a roof box anyway.

Any suggestions or support would be much appreciated!

Your missus will complain about a sore back from always having to reach into the back to strap the kids in.

Will a push chair even fit in the boot of a Roc?

If you like the Roc the best thing is to get her a car of her own. Megan Scenic, C-Max, Picasso etc.

A push-chair will fit, I discovered when giving my sister and nephews a lift not so long ago. Obviously a five-door car would be more convenient for getting the younglings in and out of the rear, but then when I was a young-un myself, my father had an Opel Manta! We survived!! LOL

I admire you for not giving in straight away and going down the route of a 'dad car' as you put it. If you can make it work with a rocco then bloody good luck to you and stick to your guns. Life's for living.

The rear seats in the Scirocco aren't that bad to gain access when plugging kids in and out. I find that once the front seat has been folded forward you can kneel into the rear passenger foot well with one leg and achieve a comfortable postition for sorting the kidders out and it's not too bad getting in and out (this might just be me personally, not sure if everyone will agree).

The thing is, when I'm away with work it's peace of mind knowing that the family are driving about in the Rocco. It is a very safe car with good brakes, grip and power for getting out of dodge. as it is a 2 door (or 3 if you count the boot) the kids arent going to be able to mess around with windows or door handles and the rear passenger window glass is already tinted to stop people perving at the children in traffic etc.

Worst come to worst my 5dr mk2 golf gti may well become the workhorse :-)

I agree with you. It is more practical to have 4 doors. But personaly I wouldn't get rid of scirocco for that. We have one child for now and everything fits in the boot, even push chair with other stuff when we went to vacation. We have 2 cars, vw polo and scirocco. Mine is of course scirocco, and my wife agrees that scirocco is enough for 2 kids. 30 years ago people in my country (Croatia, former Yugoslavia) had 2 kids and zastava 750 (similar to fiat topolino or 500), and they travel with that to vacation about 500 km. Now when you have 1 child you must buy some van.

Thanks! I agree with you that people go a bit crazy with cars when children are involved. However big your car is you will always fill it up, it's best to just make what you already have work in most cases. I'm confident that the Rocco will be big enough. A buggy or pram will fit in the boot no probs, plus there is also the isofix which is great for plugging child seats into! My eldest (4 years old) will soon be able to clip himself in and if the Mrs isn't happy with reaching into the back for the baby she can always turn the airbag off and put it in the front passenger seat!

Hahaha, had an VW Polo for years back in 1988. Went on holiday with it, with two kids en two bikes on top of the car on a roof rack.

The car was packed to the rim, moved from that to another two Polo's and from that to a Bora. No matter how small or big your car is you will allways carry to much to your holidays .

Sir, I applaud you. For a little dog like my very pretty cocker spaniel the boot is ideal and the boot is definately hers. Now I have two grandsons. They do moan a little bit, especially when it's cold and raining, but if you get a good set of ropes you can easily tie two small children to the roof.
