Doesn't give anything away but it means it's in progress. I suspect it'll just get a more angled current gen polo/golf front end.

Although reports were indicating the fourth generation of the Scirocco will come out sometime in 2015, Volkswagen is apparently working on a modest facelift for the current model. The lightly revised third-gen Scirocco will be revealed before the end of the year, prior to going on sale early next spring.

This prototype was spied testing in southwest United States hiding its front fascia which will have redesigned headlights, a new grille and reshaped bumper. The back of the car looks virtually the same, while the interior cabin is set to receive a minor makeover.

Seeing a facelifted Scirocco testing probably means its successor it's still a couple of years away, even though the current generation has been on sale since 2008.

Glad they don't seem to be tinkering too much with it. Will be interesting to see how they spec it up in terms of engine and options as that's where the Roc is starting to lag behind.

If they add the TTRS engine that it may be the first time I consider buying a brand new car.

Seems strange they are testing it in America when it's not even available to buy over their.

Maybe America is big enough to hide the development. I cant see an all new Scirocco coming out until late 2016 based on all the stories so a couple of years with a facelifted one is about right. I cant see them releasing the facelifted one in America just for a few years. I read a report saying it could be a mule with the new one underneath but it all fits too nicely so cant see that being true. It will be interesting to see what they come up with I need to order a new one around late November so unless they balls it up i'll be getting a nice R Line. Hope they also have a few new colours perhaps a nice bright red instead of salsa which I don't like or maybe sticking with candy. I guess we will have to wait and see

Just came by to post this story, seems I was beaten to it :D

Looks largely the same, doesn't it. Shame it's coming so soon - I placed an order at the end of July, would have been nice if there were no changes. I take it these will be done after BW45 in time for 23 or whatever next year?

I hope the interior doesn't change too much... though I wish they'd remove the horrible cheap looking plastic bump strips on the door. Ruins the look so much, this isn't 1995!

Yes - I reckon your correct, this 'revised' Scirocco is likely to be on sale WK22/23 next year, May 2014. One would assume the MQB platform won't be seen on the Scirocco until 2016. That is quite a long stint in current production cycles, pleased in a way as it means our cars will remain current for a while yet. I remember when I was in the showroom back in 2009 placing the order for my Scirocco, there was a Golf with a cover over it, this was the unveiling of the MK6! Roll forward 4 years and the MK7 has long since arrived.

To me, todays front end is what I like the most with the roc. It really makes the roc look aggressive and attractive!

Death valley months of baking sunshine and no rain most of the European car manufacturers ship vehicles out there for temperature testing.

Looking at the pictures I recon the interior is partially lifted from a mk7 golf and front will divided into body colour and none body colour panels.

If this new model is under going some vigorous testing in harsh conditions (like Death Valley mentioned), makes me think that perhaps the changes will be more than just skin deep?

I would not have thought a manufacturer would go to these lengths if changes were cosmetic?

Please, please Volkswagen don't ruin the front end, its the best feature, does look good being a lowered a little on the suspension. I think it would be good if a few new coiours were added, the scirocco would look great in Yellow.

Maybe the revised front end has altered the cooling drafts so needs the tests?

Since Scirocco is missing from VW's US line up it is possible that they are planning to add it there, so it can be just a test of the current Scirocco but the US version.
