Is it just me or are the heaters fairly poor in delivering a decent volume of heated air to the footwells.

I must admit I do like the car warm but they just don’t seem to be very good even when the blower is on high. I believe there are about 3 holes for the heated air to come through in the footwell area but the velocity is very poor in my car.

Yeah, they are pretty lacking my my car as well. I took a trip up to Norway last year and going through Sweden I was in -20 to -25 degree Celcius weather at times and when I would have to make a rest stop, the soles of my boots would freeze while outside. The heaters did absolutley nothing for me until I took my boots and socks off to unthaw my feet

I know that is a bit extreme but still, the floor heaters aren't the best in my opinion...

Much the same. The bottom vents are weak even when selected manually. 'Auto' is very much biased to the upper half and VW do intend it to be that way.

The bottom vents have more to outlets as there are four under the front seats. These are two under the driver's seat (RHD).
Blocking them off can raise the forward passenger footwell airflows. Blocking off is as simple as putting some brown packing tape over the outlets. Still needs the controls set to footwell setting.

Have you done this RW? Just wondering what impact it has on air circulation in the rear of the car? Does it slow down clearing of the rear side and back windows?

Did it for a while the cold winter, year before last. Wouldn't say it affects the back windows any worse than they normally mist. Use the side dash air vents to clear with the Climatronic selected to manual "Upper Body" and AirCon ON to blow dry air along the door and rear windows. The air is dragged that way by the two large boot outward air vents.
