Scirocco Central

Hi. I have an RNS 510 which i carried over from my last Scirocco GT to my newer Scirocco R. The new car is under warranty, but as the stereo is from an older car not under warranty im not sure if vw will repair for nowt. Now the problem is when i turn the stereo on it will get to the Welcome to Volkswagen screen and then just turn off. It has been doing this for a week. There is no sound and none of the functions work apart from eject. I have done a reset which does nothing, and also disconnected the power at the back of the unit. The lights on the buttons are lit but occasionally dim then come back on. As i said before i am taking it in to the dealer to have a look this Friday and hopefully they wont know its from an out of warranty car. I don't know what version the firmware is as i cant access any screen. If anyone has a solution to this i would be very grateful. Thanks.

The most likely cause for the symptoms are a RNS510 with substandard firmware build for the build of the new car. Firmware to latest is one solution.

Yes they can spot its not part of the car originally.

The stereo has worked fine for 6 months. How do i install new firmware if i cant even acces the menus? Thanks.

So its not the firmware. Its the mainboard. The dealership spotted it wasn't the head unit that came with the car and was thus out of warranty. They also charged me £96 to tell me that.
Does anyone know where i can get a mainboard for a B unit? Thanks.
