Scirocco Central

I have started this thread in the absence of a detailing forum here at Scirocco Central. Please feel free to give your opinion on whether detailing should be included on the board index or if you think I should stick to detailing world forum http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/index.php.

I'm new to detailing so have very limited knowledge. I've always taken pride in the appearance of my car and with the immanent arrival of my new Scirocco I'm gonna step it up a gear as I want to give the car the best protection from the start. I have been wading through the vast amount of info on detailing world and have come up with this as my first wash:

Rise - power wash with foam (not sure what make prably just add some Meguiar's NXT car shampoo to the power washer) leave for a few minutes and rinse

Wash - Meguiar'sNXT car shampoo, lambs wool mitt and two bucket method

Clay - Meguiar'sclay bar with Meguiar's Quick Detailer as lube

Wash - Meguiar'sNXT car shampoo, lambs wool mitt and two bucket method

Dry - Sonus microfiber cloth

Paint Cleaner - Megs Step 1 Deep Crystal

Polish - Meguiar's Step 2 Deep Crystal

Wax - Collinite No.915 Caranuba Car Wax

Glass - Meguiar's NXT glass cleaner

Wheels - Remove from the car, clean with Meguiar's NXT car shampoo and mitt (not the same mitt I use for the bodywork), apply Poorboys Wheel Sealant

Tyre Dressing - Meguiar's High Gloss Tyre gel


I have use a quite a few Meguiar's products mainly because I have them already, they are good value and readily available from Halfords. Any suggestions of better products, stages I’ve missed or stages I can leave out will be appreciated.

That will do very nicely. That's a great winter wax, extremely durable.

That's a fair comment danwuk and was the response I expected. At this stage whilst Scirocco Central is still new I don't think there are enough members to warrant a detailing sub forum and from the lack of comments on this thread there wouldn't appear to be much interest in discussing detailing. You never know, this may change as membership grows.

I appreciate that there are existing detailing communities but I thought it might be worth having a casual discussion on this site. Anybody who is interested now has this thread.

Cheers - I will post some before and after pics when I give my Scirocco the treatment.

I'm not bothering this time around,going for a low maintenance approach.I'll have the dealer Supaguard it and i'll use Swissvax teflon wax on the wheels,it'll look 99.9% as good,if not better more of the time.I used Swissvax products on my last car and it wasn't worth it for me,i live in the country and the car is always covered in mud since i'm driving on mud and manure and all sorts much of the time(the roads are seriously messy here compared to urban roads),so low maintenance is the key.I'll still handwash it myself but that's about all i want to have to do.Plus the car is going to arrive in the middle of winter,i'd rather not spend all day out in the cold when it arrives when i could be out drivng it with the heated seats on

Car detailing just isn't worth it unless you really enjoy it doing it,i don't so it wasn't worth it for me,i got bored of it very quickly.A days work that's ruined the moment you actually drive it anywhere,not my idea of fun.

thanks for the tips its useful to get some names of products there that i will look out for, think i'll be spending too much time driving it instead of going the whole 9 yards, i do admire peoples dedication on this issue but mine will be covered in mud as its purely a workhorse hence why i could never do white justice
