Resetting the service interval display

Last october i had my first longlife interval service ( QG1).

i could not remember wether the garage had reset the service display on the MFD, or i did after, but the display is telling me i am due for a service this week.

However, after checking the service schedule book, it says the next service interval is due on feb 2013.

Is there any way to reset the display to this date? Its bugging me now with the premature warning message.

It sounds as if the garage has reset the car on time & distance (10k / 12mths). Since it's nearly 12 months from your last service that's why it's coming up with the message.

I don't understand where the Feb 2013 comes from as if the car was on longlife it would be approx 19miles / 24 mths for next service so should be October 2013.

It tells you on the handbook on how to reset the service display. It reverts back to T & D if you do this longlife needs to be reset by dealer

this is the annoying thing. All i had was an oil change and without much done.

by chance i have an early start at work tomorrow, so i will pop down the local VW garage and ask them on the way.

I have just read an article on longlife service and since most of my driving are done on short , daily 15 mile communtes, perhaps it would be better to switch to time/distance.

by chance i have an early start at work tomorrow, so i will pop down the local VW garage and ask them on the way.

I have just read an article on longlife service and since most of my driving are done on short , daily 15 mile communtes, perhaps it would be better to switch to time/distance.

I do the perfect high mileage profile for longlife servicing but prefer to have the oil changed every 10k miles, which is every 4mths for me.

Having spoken to someone from the dealer, i am still a bit confused.

according to them, i should obey the car because it monitors the oil quality, based on my driving style. Since i do those mentioned miles and mostly urban driving, it seems the car had 'commanded' that i should have another oil service( QG1).

The date entered in the book is more like a suggestion, because since the last QG1 was in oct2011, my driving style could have changed so much that the engine warrants new oil.

i don't mind changing to the time/distance thing, but would be great if they had mentioned this to me before during the last QC1.

Just get the oil changed and get it on Time and Distance.

Although they are correct with the oil quality sensor I still think it's one coincidence that it's exactly a year since it was serviced. If you have only done 4k miles in that year, I would very much doubt that even with town driving the oil would deteriorate so quickly. I think ypu're car is on T%D and the dealer are just making excuses.

It's easy to tell what it's on when you look at the service menu or hold down the trip meter to see when the next service is due.

I wonder if the system monitor defaults to the T&D service interval if it detects that you have fallen far short of the driving style required to take advantage of the long life service. In which case it would be 1 year.

i guess its best to get the oil changed and reset everything. With winter around the corner i'll get them to give it the full check up.


I still have 1/2 a container of Longlife oil left for topping up. could i still use these eventhough the schedule is switched to T&S?

Probably, as most dealers use longlife oil even with T&D services. Just check with them what oil they have used when the service is done.
