IPod cable

Hi all,

For any who have seen it, what sort of functions does the 'official' ipod cable bring into the main stereo unit.

I assume the very least it would bring across track info and the ability to pause, play, skip tracks on the playlist etc. Does it do anything else though such as:

Allow you to browse your Ipod for albums, artists etc and seletect a new playlist from the touch screen?
What about if you connect an Iphone to the cable, will it bring across the phone functions as well as the Ipod? I.e. if the phone rings the audio stops and you can answer the call via the touchscreen / speak and hear from the stereo? Probably a bit much but wouldn't that be great!!!

Gonna order the iPod cable anyway but would nice to understand all the features you get before I start trying things...

What you see on your ipod screen you see on the head unit, i.e albums, artists, tracks, etc. You do not get any phone functionality. And you don't need to buy one as they come standard with the car.

Cool I didn't realise it came as standard, its listed as costing £25 in the price guide...

Will double check with the dealer just to be sure!

I did find the thread listed above once I had posted. Broke the cardinal rule of not posting the question until I had searched for the answer..

Cheers for the responses..

I don't think the IPOD cable comes as standard. It's the USB flash drive cable.

No pointed in listing it as an option if it did

You might want a spare or a replacement.

Then why in the link above does he say
You need an actual VW iPod cable to get it to work, according to the site the standard USB one that comes with it only supports flash memory sticks (I will try this on Monday), however on the site you can see what the iPod cable looks like and the fact that the USB can be removed

Because the dealer's didn't know that it came as standard. :? . When I questioned it they checked it out with VW and they confirmed that you get both leads as standard. :)

So I need to check with the dealer tomorrow when i pick mine up?

So does the dealer have to supply it or should it already be in the glovebox with all the other docs etc when you get it?

What should happen is that VW send 1 for each vehicle that is sold {usually to the parts dept} so your salesman/woman should then put it in the car for you.

Not long now then. Sleepness night coming up. :hyper:

Going back to my previous statement it was to indicate that the ipod will not work by using an original ipod cable via the standard USB cable that comes with the car, you need the VW ipod cable.

My dealer is not aware of ipod cables being included, I've checked with 3 dealers and their demos, they didn't get an ipod cable however they also don't know how to order one either as I want one for the day my car arrives.

I hope it comes as standard so I don't have to haggle for it (saving the haggling for something else) :)

I got mine as standard it says in the price list page 6 I think that it's included. If the dealer phones VW they will confirm.

My dealer has just come back to me after asking his colleague and advised that it would be a £25 extra and does not come as standard :?

I have pointed out that numerous other people have reported that it came with thier cars regardless of wether they requested it or not (and that also What Car points out in its test under the 'things you will love' that it comes with iPod connectivity).

Hopefully the dealer will come back with a slightly different answer this time apart from this they have been excellent in answering questions, providing a good deal and keeping me informed of progress. Shame to blot the copybook now for the sake of £25.

When I picked my car on Tuesday I asked the dealer and yesterday he rang to say the cables ready to pick up. So should be free!
