Accessory Sockets

Post by fergyuk »

Hi

New owner of a 2012 Candy GT here ...

Noticed that the accessory sockets only drop to 8v when the ignition is off, so my tomtom doesn't switch off and I can see at some point i will forget to unplug everything and flatten the battery.

So does anyone have a solution or installed another socket somewhere that goes 0 volts at switch off ?

Thanks

Fergy

I think You can have the TomTom on for at least a weekend without problems.

Why not find a used RNS 510?

I suppose I could but just seems strange, also I used to keep a starter pack in the boot of the last car so it charged whenever I drove the car.

may have to find a circuit to bridge into that does go 0 volts

The 8 volts isn't meant to be there. There is some sort of backward feed through from a controller ECU circuit (bad :shake: , bad design). The socket is meant to isolate when the ignition is off, because the socket has a switch supply through a relay controlled by the ignition key.

How good are you with car wiring ?

Snap, long time ago though..... Nimrod Development AEW Mk3 - Navigation.

The easiest way to get a 12 volts switched by the ignition is Fuses 1 thro' 4 in the Driver's dash side fuse plate.
Run the fly wire then to where ever you want. Under dash panel above the pedals is easy to remove - a few screws.
Drivers Side Dash Fuse Panel - 01.JPG
Suggest Fuse 1 as its higher rated with least load.
All fuse info is listed here.... http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... ilit=+fuse" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Mini Fuse - Fuse Holder Bypass are available on Ebay. Put the original fuse in the Bypass holder and a lower rated mini fuse for the Tom-Tom. Then plug the black part back into the dash fuse panel position at Fuse 1. Take the flylead onto what ever termination and position you require.

(Note if you choose to use the lower fuses, some are the standard size and the above Ebayer sells those types of fuse bypass holders as well.)

Pretty sure there's a vacant permanent live slot near the top row which I've used. Dark now so I can't go out and check.

The two vacant slots (No.'s 5 & 6) on the top row next to the 2 x 5amp fuses (No.'s 3 & 4) and the 2 x 10 amp fuses (No.'s 1 & 2) are switched ignition volts on early model years but battery connected for the last 20 months of production. I cannot trace how the vacant ones are set up, so didn't want to advise on an unknown connection point.

But some model years are different and some are battery connectioned in the top row. MY2009/2010 is ignition switched but the drawing indicates MY2011/2012 they are battery connected from Fuse 3 onwards.

So depending on the Model Year, the fuse power sources are different in that top row of slots and in some cases lower down the rows. Fuses 1 & 2 are switched for all Model Years, so a safe common pick off point.
