Scirocco Central

I know that there are various threads on tyre wear, however i want to confirm how many scirocco owners have experienced uneven tyre wear, or quickly wearing tyres. Reviewing the 4 channels (the channels on which you base the tread depth).I  have only done 7000 miles and  and on inspection of the two middle channels of the two front tyres I have noticed they are almost down to the limit,  however the inside and outside channels of the tyre are at a good 5mm depth.  

I have other friends with a scirocco and they have the same problem (having to replace tyres every 5000 miles), they have been persistent with the garage who claims this is due to the standard suspension set up. My friend has raised this issue further up to management in VW itself who are currently inspecting the car. 

If anybody else has experienced similar issues please can you let me know, either to find the suspected cause, or raise weighting to the VW investigation. Many thanks in advance. 

Its a characteristic of some wider tread width tyres. Due the construction, the tyre when running at speed and centrifugal forces, the tyre deforms outwards in the centre of the tread area. This leads to the increased tread wear you have got. Some brands are more prone than others.

Thanks for The contrubution. Although wouldn't this be the case on all four tyres rather than te front two.

Plus others I have spoken to have experienced uneven wear on their rear tyres, I'd like think the issue could be a little more than this as 7k miles on one set of tyres as standard is very poor and tyre running costs will be extremely high to keep the car.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues?

Front tyres are driven so the stance of the car changes went accelerating on the ballooning centre of the tyre causing more wear, ie. tractive effort is mainly applied through the central area of the tread face. The rear tyres just trail, so ain't affected as much.

Other uneven wear such as inside compared to outside rather than centre on the rears is through incorrect camber & toe settings which are adjustable on the rear axle of the Scirocco. It has been experienced by people on here with adjuster bolts becoming slack.

if the middles have gone they could be over inflated

After 12k I have same issue, front tyres, centre tread down to tread wear indicators - outside tread about 5mm. When I found out a few weeks ago, realised tyre pressure inflated to 35psi as per fuel cap filler lid sticker, but was advised by tyre fitter this should be about 32 - maybe over inflation has caused issue. I'm not an aggressive driver, but do like the corners when safe!

Will be changing this week from standard fit Pirelli P Zero's to possibly Goodyear Eagles. I'll be checking every few weeks to monitor issue.

I run my tyres at 36psi and after 13k miles my P-Zeros have worn evenly and have 6mm left across the tyre
