Looking good Avi.. Any renders of the back? That's currently the weakest area in my opinion.

Not bad at all, Avi! Have you created these?
I thought so as well in the beginning, but it has really grown on me. Helps a lot lowering the car and removing the type badges!kiwicelt wrote:Looking good Avi.. Any renders of the back? That's currently the weakest area in my opinion.

Re: Designs for Scirocco MK4 anyone?
Why is that weird? 6 year shelf life for MK3 Scirocco seems quite short compared to some cars.raffoul232 wrote: end 2013/ beginning 2014. No idea why they made it go on for so long. The golf mk7 is coming out in 2012 weird
The MK6 Golf came out after 5 years of the MK5, and will last olny 3 years, but lets be honest, the MK6 Golf was more like MK5.5. The body was nigh on the same, changes to lights and grilles externally and an updated interior do not make a new car. The reason the MK6 Golf came out was time/money saving. They saved lots of build time by simplifying the rear multi-linked suspension set up, and saved a whole lot of money in the process, and then ramped up the list price. The MK6 Golf GTD was £4k more than it's equivalent MK5 counterpart (the 170TDI GT Sport), as was the MK6 GTI - bargain! I think it's at this point VW really started to distance itself from the price-point of Ford/Vauxhall/Peugeot etc and started chasing premium money - not much cheaper than the equivalent Audi or BMW now.
Most car generations last 6-8 years before being replaced.
2013 - Tornado Red MK7 Golf GTD on order
2011-2013 - Rising Blue 170GT
2009-2011 - Pewter Roc 140GT
2007-2009 - Tornado Red Golf 170TDI GT
2005-2007 - Black Pearl Golf 140TDI GT
2003-2005 - Black Pearl Polo 1.9TDI
2011-2013 - Rising Blue 170GT
2009-2011 - Pewter Roc 140GT
2007-2009 - Tornado Red Golf 170TDI GT
2005-2007 - Black Pearl Golf 140TDI GT

Re: Designs for Scirocco MK4 anyone?
Here's one take to chew on.............
VW did state a while back as the Iroc appeared in Berlin that the Scirocco Mk3 that it was a 5 year, 160,000 unit project as a gap filler at the VW Palmela plant at Setúbal, Portugal. Ford pulling out of the factory with the next generation Galaxy production. The Scirocco's production was based on the premise that VW didn't know after a 13 year gap how the model would sell. It has exceeded their expectations by a long shot and almost the line capacity at 51,000 units this last full production year ending April 2010, 20,000 more than planned.
Indications makes the Mk4 Scirocco due 2012 not 2014 as previous, which is ahead of the Golf Mk7 by two years on the new MQB matrix design if it is a direct launch date exchange. ie. New Scirocco Mk4 - August 2012 and the Golf 7 in 2014 but there are other models migrating to the MQB matrix design, so they may re-order the releases 2012 - 2014 with the Tiguan, Touran and Golf 7 Cabriolet.
The counter to this is I haven't yet spotted a Scirocco Mk4 test mule anywhere. 2011 should be the year of spy shots of the Mk4 if it is appearing in 2012. Which makes me think both the Scirocco & Golf 6 will continue longer than planned due to high sales volume.
I doubt any midlife crisis changes before production of the Mk3 ceases, its selling too well and they are still opening up new markets elsewhere in the world such as Australia. The design has settled down with the MY2010.5 models changes in Nov'09 and little is changed under the skin since then. The change in the UK is upto VW(UK) to offer the other market options already available elsewhere. eg. Reversing Camera option, alternative interior finishings on seats amd minor tweeks in interior trim finishes as examples.

Volkswagen introduces the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB)
02.02.2012

MQB exploits synergies in key technologies across vehicle classes and brands
MQB makes luxury class technologies accessible to high-volume models
This year, Volkswagen Group will be introducing the Modular Transverse Matrix – the German acronym is MQB – for the Volkswagen, Audi, ŠKODA and SEAT brands. The MQB strategy represents a turning point in the design and production of future automobiles with transverse-mounted engines.
The Modular Transverse Matrix standardizes many vehicle component parameters – across brands and vehicle classes. At the same time, it offers access to new technologies. The MQB extends from the A0 to the B segment.
At the Volkswagen brand, for example, it covers the following models: Polo, Beetle, Golf, Scirocco, Jetta, Tiguan, Touran, Sharan, Passat and Volkswagen CC.
In the future, all of these models could theoretically be produced on the same assembly line – despite their different wheelbases and track widths. It will be possible to produce MQB models of different brands together. The first new vehicles to be produced based on the MQB will be the successor to the Audi A3 just annouced this week and the next generation Golf.
One of the prominent characteristics of the Modular Transverse Matrix is the uniform mounting position of all engines.
Two systems integrated in the MQB strategy which play a key role here are the modular petrol engine system (MOB) with the new EA211 engine series (40 kW / 60 PS to 110 kW / 150 PS) – this range includes the world’s first four-cylinder engine with cylinder deactivation (ACT)
And the modular diesel engine system (MDB) with the also new EA288 engine series (66 kW / 90 PS to 140 kW / 190 PS).
In one fell swoop, the new engine series will reduce the Group’s engine and gearbox variants in the MQB system by approximately 90 per cent. Without any negative effects. On the contrary, in addition to standardizing conventional internal combustion engines, the MQB also enables an identical mounting position for all current alternative drive concepts without limitations – from natural gas and hybrid versions to the pure electric drive. Volkswagen has already announced the launch of the latter within the MQB in 2013 in the new Golf Blue-e-Motion.
The MQB opens up new opportunities at Volkswagen Group, allowing it to produce high-volume and niche models at the highest quality and extremely competitive costs over the long term and worldwide – vehicles that are individually tailored to the requirements of very diverse markets such as Europe, China and America, as well as emerging markets such as India. In parallel, Volkswagen Group will significantly reduce vehicle weights with the launch of the first MQB model series and will introduce 20 innovations in the areas of safety and infotainment, which until now were reserved for higher vehicle segments.
They include the new multicollision brake; after an initial collision, it helps to reduce the intensity of secondary collisions by automatically initiated braking. Very recently, ADAC awarded this system the ‘Yellow Angel’ award for innovations. The multicollision brake will be standard equipment in the next generations of the Audi A3 and the Golf.
Within the Group, the MQB developed under the auspices of the Volkswagen brand is supplemented by the Modular Longitudinal System (MLB) from Audi, the Modular Standard System (MSB) with Porsche as the competence centre and finally the ‘New Small Family’ – the most compact vehicle model series with the Volkswagen up!, SEAT Mii and ŠKODA Citigo.
One indicator of the pioneering significance of the modular systems strategy and the innovative potential realized by these new vehicle and production architectures is that Volkswagen was selected as one of five finalists for the ‘Innovation Award of the German Economy – The World’s First Innovation Award®’ for its Modular Transverse Matrix. This prestigious award for outstanding technical, scientific and intellectual achievements has been awarded annually since 1980 by the Economics Club of Rhein-Main and since 2011 in conjunction with the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. On 11 February, the prize winners will be announced at the Palais 'Thurn und Taxis' in Frankfurt, Germany, by Günther Oettinger, EU Commissar for Energy.
The anticipation grows!
