Claying

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of claying my Roc for the first time. I've had people tell me warm water can be used as 'lube' aswell. Or do need to buy the claying juice? Enlighten me please before I go spend a load of money on products?

So it can be used with a very weak water/shampoo mix acting as lube. Just don't want to bugger up the frog green paint.

The Bilt Hamber soft clay, is the only one I know which can be used with water as a lube.

Interesting, looks like I am buying Bilt Hamber clay, tempted to try the wax aswell. Any experiences? I am torn between it and the kit Gtechniq are offering:

What do you guys reckon to this as a regime:

Rinse - Warm water along with a Autoperfection - Super Soft Wash Mitt
Wash - Lusso auto bathe with autoperfection lambs wool mitt x 2
Claying - Bilt Hamber soft clay bar with warm water as lube
Wax/polish - the Gtecniq kit above or Bilt Hamber auto balm (or any better suggestions, its a viper Roc). Are these two products any good?

I'm looking for a product which gives a good deep shine and protects but relatively cheap.

Windows - Rain-X with microfibre cloth
Wheels - Bilberry wheel cleaner, wheel brush, then sealed with poorboys wheel sealant along with autoperfection tyre dressing.

Be cool to get all your thoughts and suggestions, Taryn and Jim I'd appreciate your feedback too ,

personally i'd say scratch the wash mitt when rinsing, otherwise its just washing without the shampoo.
I rinse mine with the hose to dislodge & loosen as much dirt as possible and then move on to the 2BM, wash mitt, shampoo (warm water in with the shampoo)
the aim is to try & have minimal contact with the paintwork so you reduce the possibility of causing swirls (hence why some people turn to snowfoam to remove as much dirt as possible before using anything that comes into contact with the paint)

take it as a no?
only thing I would say is claying & then relayering on your protection takes a fair amount of time, you may end up wanting to kill yourself doing it every 3 or 4 months, I tend to do mine twice a year (in readiness for winter & then once the weather has cleared up to get the winter grot off)

(& you have a warm water hose?! )

Yeh I thing I was OTT. Claying twice a year seems a good idea. I've heard a pre wax applicant is needed before waxing or is this a myth?? Also have you guys got a good recommendation of the best wax to use for a Viper Roc? How often do you guy wax it?? Twice a year also and inbetween are you guys using a QD spray instead??

How does a bottle of Dodo Juice - Red Mist Protection Detailer perform on a Viper Roc as a QD. Sorry to be a pain but just want to make sure I am getting the right goods. I swept the Roc this morning of its snow and it looks in a sorry state.

I don't think i'm best qualified to advise on a 'best wax' I just read through reviews and went for a general all rounder that people seemed happy with & ended up with collinite 915 which is doing its job, i've been looking at finishes of others abit more and once thats finished i'm going to give something different a try.

Mine gets a coat of wax roughly one in three washes ish (& gets washed probably every 3 or 4 weeks, depending on what I have on) if its not waxed then it tends to get a quick mist of QD & polish off (dodo juice or the one in the megs clay kit) or just dried off.

Red mist seems to be a pretty good overall QD, i'm addicted to the smell , mine lives in my boot with a microfibre in the drivers door pocket for any bird poo emergencies that may arise

Pre wax i.e. Lusso revitalising creme? Cheers Trix, your comments are appreciated. Going to have a read around and decide on the best wax to buy. Is the collinite easy to buff out and leaves no swirl marks?

Sounds about right, waxing once every quarter and QD inbetween.

Just detailed the Roc for the first time. Clayed it as well and its hard work, ended up with cramp in my fingers pressing the spray mist trigger. But results are awesome .

I know what you mean, I am still deciding what clay to get - just got the pressure washer and the foam, today I will call the local Autosmart dealer and see if what he wants to charge for the Snow Foam.

Another Clay worth a look that can used with water is Valetpro's. The cost of a lube is generaly cheap so i prefer to use a lube rather than water.

how about tar remover? it will make the claying a lot easier. Also Iron -x.
