My 2011 2.0 TSI in Rising Blue
Hey guys. Been stalking the forums for quite some time now, and decided it's time to get out of the dark.
3 months ago I bought this LHD 2011 2.0 TSI beauty. I wanted a Golf 6 GTI but decided that's just a Golf and the Roc is way better looking and pretty rare (compared to the Golf).
Coming from an 1.9 TDI 150hp ARL Bora and a 105hp B7 Passat, this is in a totally different league. I enjoy every bit of driving it to work and on roadtrips. Mileage is...well, half of what both my other TDIs offer, but worth every liter
So what options does it have?
R-Line black roof liner
RCD 510 (no bluetooh tho)
Dual climatic aircon
Heated seats
Factory tinted rear windscreen and rear windows
18" Interlagos Turbine wheels
6-speed manual (didn't wanted the DSG as it spoils the fun of driving imo)
Aftermarket rear parking sensors (installed by previous owner)
The usual coming home/follow me home settings, fog lights with turn assist
Mods? Not much. Changed all interior lights to LED and added R-Line badges because i really like them
It has 78k km now (approx. 48k miles), bought it at 74k in April.
Currently running on Castrol Magnatec 5W30 oil that needs to be changed soon. Any suggestions? I've read that MAgnatec is not fully synthetic. Was thinking to opt for Motul Specific 5W30.
Known issues: boot light is not working. Changed the bulb, but that didn't solve the problem. Must be something to do with the trunk latch or bad ground. Would really appreciate if someone could shed some clarity on this.
Has a scratch on the bonnet (can barely be seen in some pics).
Wastegate rattles (it's normal).
And i have an annoying rattle in the back while driving slowly between 2000 and 3000rpm, plastic rattle but couldn't isolate the noise.

And the other 2 family members (Bora was on winter wheels. It has a beautiful set of 16" BBS Montreal 6 alloys)

Plus mandatory models of each. 1:43rd scale made by Minichamps and Norev (the Bora model is not made in silver only black or midnight blue)

Re: My 2011 2.0 TSI in Rising Blue
Guys, i've searched the forum for my rattle problem and didn't find a solution. It's not the tailgate stoppers because the rattle is audiable between 2000-3000rpm. And no, it's not the wastegate rattle either. It's similar but comming from the back side pannel or seats. It's a plastic rattle that resonates with the engine revs. Tried to put down the seats, seatbelts fixed in place, no resolution. Pressed on the door trim, rear plastic pannels, center console mount, nothing. What could it be?
Re: My 2011 2.0 TSI in Rising Blue
Welcome mate, nice pics!
A video of the rattle could help maybe other forum members in identifying the source of it.
Cheers

Here's the video with the rattle. It's getting very annoying, but it doesn't happen all the time, only after driving for about 30km. Very strange.

Re: My 2011 2.0 TSI in Rising Blue
Sorry for the triple post, but i've isolated the sound. It's the fuel line(s). This issue is common and can be fixed with some grommets, just need an elevator for this job.
Seems that it's common on Mk. 7 GTis as well:

Re: My 2011 2.0 TSI in Rising Blue
R-Line does not have an "R-look", it just has a more aggressive front lip, different rear bumper and skirts. But different from the pure R.
As I stated in my first post, I added the r-line badges because I like the looks. My interior has the black R-Line liner, so yeah, it's not completely "R-Line-less"
I might add the R-Line exterior kit in the near future.

Next up is an oil change and I'll look into the fuel lines rattle.
Meanwhile, here's a quick 0-140kmh run. 0-100kmh timed at approx. 6.5s. Not bad for a manual. Love it!

Not bad! At what RPM does the rev limiter kick in? Seems to be over 6000. I noticed that on pre-2010 the red line on rev counter was slightly higher than post 2010Alex230 wrote:Next up is an oil change and I'll look into the fuel lines rattle.

Thanks. Well I have not tested the rev limiter, but i guess it might be around 7300rpm.

Re: My 2011 2.0 TSI in Rising Blue
Hey guys. Coming back with info on the rattling thing. First, elevated the car and checked the fuel lines. All good, no rattles. The exhaust heat shield was a bit lose and i've secured it, thinking that would solve my problem. Well...no. That was not it.
After some more digging, I've found out that the fuel lines that are connected directly to the tank from under the rear seats could be the culprit. Removed rear bench and inspected the area. Nothing was lose around there but inserted some closed cell foam in between and around them to be sure. While I was there with the rear bench removed, moving in the car to insert it back, i heard a metallic sound. ON a thorough inspection, it came from right under the plastic shroud located in between the rear seats next to the seat belt sockets. Guess what I removed from that spot...a damn coin! It was moving freely between the plastic shroud and the metal body. This explains why i cold only hear the sound from time to time.
Did this 3 days ago, had a 600 mile trip with it and all was quiet. I'm now rattle free.

And since the repair wasn't expensive ), you can now spend on a rear r/r line bumper, exhaust and some lowering springs .

Long time no show.
Loved the fog and had to snap a few shots.

Re: My 2011 2.0 TSI in Rising Blue
Just bought a set of BF Goodrich G-Grip summer tires. Read a lot of reviews around and these seem great for my budget. First, I wanted to get the Kumho Ecsta LE Sport KU39, or Ecsta KU71, but they seemed noisy and wet grip is not very good.
Gonna have them mounted on my Interlagos in a few days.
Anyone rocking any BF G-Grips?

Re: My 2011 2.0 TSI in Rising Blue
Hey Mate,
How did you go about fitting the R Line badge on the front grill?
I have a 2014 r line with the same grill, and for the life of me can't fit it.
I've tried removing the top grill multiple times but keep thinking i'm going to snap it. I even went to a vw garage and they wanted to charge an hours labour (£117) to remove the lower grill, headlight fixings etc.
Any advice would be really appreciated!
