Bluetooth module for Red MFD (2009 Scirocco)
Bluetooth module for Red MFD (2009 Scirocco)
Hello!
I've just installed a Fiscon Bluetooth Module, and unfortunately the A2DP isn't great, at all. Quite appalling really...
I've searched around the forums and the internet for the past few days - but the info I'm finding is really definitive.
What Bluetooth module can I install in my 2009 Scirocco GT with a red MFD display?
The only features I'm interested in are: music streaming over Bluetooth and calls.
I have an RCD 510, and the Fiscon Unit manages to nail the telephone menu available through it. Would this still be possible through VW modules?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Bluetooth module for Red MFD (2009 Scirocco)
I scoured the Internet and found a bit more info on all this BT stuff.
9w2 - streams music and makes calls.
9w3 - allows phone book integration and makes calls.
9w7 - streams music, allows phone book integration and can make calls as well.
I've just purchased the 1K8 035 730 D module - which is a 9w2.
Unfortunately with my old, MFD+ display I won't be able to use the MFSW or have the MFD integration with the 9w7 model.
But with the 9w2 module, I will.
The only way to get a 9w7 to work with my Red MFD+ is if I buy converter that changes the protocols the Red MFD+ can understand.
Aka this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/281382969847" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So the 9w2 will cost me roughly 75.
The 9w7, roughly 350.
275 isn't worth the phone book integration for me.
Hope this info provides some light on a few things!

Re: Bluetooth module for Red MFD (2009 Scirocco)
Thanks for the write up mate. I also have red mfd and the lack of Bluetooth annoys me sometimes.
So if I was to buy the 9w2 it would connect into my RCD510 and then I could stream music and make calls?
Presumably I would also need to wire in a mic for the call part of it.

No worries!
That's what all my research has lead me to believe.
If you could hold off on buying the bluetooth module, I can update this thread once I've installed my unit.
So far I've purchased:
Harness + Mic (Make sure to get the Plug and play one. It's more expensive, but saves the hassle of having the wire/solder/add/subtract)
Module (730D)
Foam Cover
(Pictures Attached)
Just to clarify, I have the same MFD as the one in the attached photo.

Excellent, that's good news. I'll keep an eye on this thread and see how you get on.
The mfd looks the same, where you from, temp in Fahrenheit and the brake light suggest across the pond?

Will so, just waiting on the stuff to arrive.
Actually, I'm from up North - Glasgow. Near the wall of sorts...
The picture I posted was just one I found online that matched my own

Ah I see. I'm in Fife so not far away. We're organising a meet in Falkirk on the 4th June. If you can you should head along, trying to get a decent size meet.

Re: Bluetooth module for Red MFD (2009 Scirocco)
Would've been great, but I'm off for the summer
I managed to fit the Bluetooth Module yesterday!
So:
Calling function works
Bluetooth music streaming (A2DP) works
MFSW controls work with calls as well
I haven't yet coded it, so I don't yet have the MFD integration with the Bluetooth calling.
The song titles don't show on streaming, but it does display on my RCD-510 and MFD that the 'Bluetooth Audio' is in use.
Does any one know how to code it?
Anyways, the installation itself was plug and play.
I decided not to install the module under the seat - instead I placed the module underneath the front ashtray (way less work needed this way).

Re: Bluetooth module for Red MFD (2009 Scirocco)
If you've bought the harness I have, the Bluetooth is simply plug and play.
Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures, but the installation is relatively straightforward.
Using plastic-prying tools, remove the plastic covering around the stereo and air-conditioning controls.
Remove the 4 screws surround the stereo and whatever screws there are around the air conditioner.
Remove the stereo and AC controls, being careful to unplug the wiring behind them - there are videos on how to do this.
Remove the 'original' harness behind the stereo, place the harness you bought 'in-between' the stereo and the 'original' harness.
There should be two plugs that come off the harness you purchased.
One connects to the Bluetooth module, and the other connects to microphone.
For the Bluetooth microphone wiring - there's a guide on the forum here on how to wire it to the centre roof light (toughest thing to do).
Enjoy!

Thanks I assume I have the wrong harness, any suggestions?VWBlue wrote:If you've bought the harness I have, the Bluetooth is simply plug and play.

Re: Bluetooth module for Red MFD (2009 Scirocco)
Your wiring harness needs to be spliced into the existing loom I'm afraid. Easy to do if you have tools and a soldering iron etc, or you could buy a complete loom with the correct adapters fitted. like this one from China.

If I were you I'd do what Viking suggested.
Get the harness and save yourself the trouble dearie.
