went driving around the oopnurthring in the peak district yesterday. in 1 degrees at time with ice. can't praise the eagle F1's enough, at no time did I feel unsafe on them. they continue to be very good on our UK roads in ever regard. the way you can go at 80mph+ in the rain and feel so planted is great.

Would go for PSS in a heartbeat but Michelin don't seem to make them in 235/40 R18 Anyone know why?snapey wrote:Pilot Super Sports. Easily the best tyre I've come across. Awesome grip and their wear rate is uncannily low for the level of performance they offer.

Re: what tyres is everyone rocking?
If they don't, it will be down to the popularity of the size and the potential sales volume. The more popular size is 225/40x18C00kie wrote:Would go for PSS in a heartbeat but Michelin don't seem to make them in 235/40 R18 Anyone know why?snapey wrote:Pilot Super Sports. Just don't go out if it's below 10 degrees, or wet, or moist, or if the road looks even slightly damp.xjay1337 wrote:Eagle F1's on mine but going for Pilot Cup 2 which have recently been released in 235/40/18 when I'm due.
Cup 2s don't work in low temps at all. Tried to drive a boxter spyder with a set on in the wet and it was lethal. But a higher powered car on Michelin pSS was completely planted and solid.
IMHO for every day driving, in UK weather, and for when your car isn't just a track toy (as his boxter is) then PSS will outperform cup 2s in most respects.

Re: what tyres is everyone rocking?
The Spyder is a high-powered, rear-wheel drive, mid-engined sports car with a traction control system that, from what I've read, allows a bit of slip as standard. The Scirocco is a front-wheel drive, front-engined car with a lot of weight over the front wheels. They drive in a completely different manner to each other and therefore tyres will perform in a correspondingly different way.shrink wrote:Just don't go out if it's below 10 degrees, or wet, or moist, or if the road looks even slightly damp.xjay1337 wrote:Eagle F1's on mine but going for Pilot Cup 2 which have recently been released in 235/40/18 when I'm due.

I agree that Cup 2s aren't best suited to wet and/or cold weather however I don't believe they're anywhere near as bad as the original Cups.

Rears are Vredestein Ultrac Vorti's half worn been on the car 23 months, fronts are Michelin Pilot Super Sports been on 1 month very impressed with the PSS's so far.
Michelins cost £143 each delivered and £10 each fitted by VW.

Nothing, it's just that for not a lot more you can get PSS and they are in a different league of grip and performance, especially in the wet.

Re: what tyres is everyone rocking?
What are people's thoughts on replacing the 235/40/18 on the 18" Interlagos with 225/40/18? I've heard that it's possible but wondering if it's a safe enough thing to do or not.

Re: what tyres is everyone rocking?
I'll be fine :-) I've driven lots of tyres and my bike had similar type tyres.shrink wrote:Just don't go out if it's below 10 degrees, or wet, or moist, or if the road looks even slightly damp.xjay1337 wrote:Eagle F1's on mine but going for Pilot Cup 2 which have recently been released in 235/40/18 when I'm due.

You are correct though. Most of the time then a more every day tyre is suitable. But over summer who cares.
I may move to PSS or PS4, as I have a set of Dunlop D3 Direzzas sat waiting for track days.
I ended up putting Vred Ultrac Vorti's on , they are just as good, if not a tad better in the dry, than the Eagles IMO.

Stick with 235/40 or 245/40
225/40 will produce a stupid look in wheel arch.

Sadly I'm Scottish, and cheap, and will run my bridgestones until they genuinely need replacing, but I'll be all over the PSS like a rash when the time comes.

Re: what tyres is everyone rocking?
Not Falken Ziex, I probably would have chosen them after some reviews from here. Grip is awful, can get spin while "flooring it" in 2nd and 3rd.
Thinking I am going dunlop's for my next set of alloys.

245 40 will fit absolutely fine.

That was for 245 40 18 as they do not do the pss in 235 40.

Re: what tyres is everyone rocking?
Had to replace rear tyres recently due to a nail through one of the sidewalls.
Found out the eagle f1 asymmetrics are now on ver 3 so plumped for them (only a tenner more ea than F2s)
whats suprising is the profile of the tyre is completely different. the tyre is far more rounded than the F2 which looks soo skinny at certain angles. In fact the F2's often trick me to thinking they are runnin low PSI when they are not.
All said and done the F2's look cooler, and as F3's are on the back have no idea if they are decent or not in terms of grip.
