Steering / caster problems

Post by Davidpeebles »

Hi guys,

Been have steering wheel problem for months had alignment done several times but steering seems to constantly move to the left with any slight camber on the road. It's even more noticeable on the motorway and steering will just sit to the left and I'm constantly having to hold it in the middle.

Last alignement I got done was at kwikfit on the hunter machine, set the steering wheel myself to make sure it was happy with centre position.

I noticed on the print out the caster was out and I asked them about it but they said they couldn't adjust this as they do not get the details from VW.

Would anyone know how much VW would charge do to this? I'm hoping this is the problem with the car and not something else.

Last time I checked VW wanted £100 to do wheel alignment

Caster always shows out on VW car's on a hunter alignment machine. Was out on my Golf mk5, and my mk6 - it's nothing to be concerned with.

As they say, it is not adjustable. VW can't adjust it either, it doesn't need adjusting anyway

A perfectly aligned car will drift to the left slightly due to the normal road camber.

Thanks mate. No idea what the problem could be then. I've had all new tyres, and the car checked over. Had alignment done roughly 4 times in the past 8 months and it seems to go fine for a week then start giving a problem again.

Had to get the egr changed in Oct and ever since then it's been a constant problem.
