I brought a new second hand car Saturday, drove it home from Midlands so it got pretty stinking so I washed it today with miguires gold class.
I've got polishes and waxes in my collection but I've never seen a car come up so clean from just a wash, literally the mitt glided over the fairly soiled car and the beading was amazing! I've never been able to get that result, the guy I brought it off said he had it detailed before I had it but I was wondering if anyone would know what sort of product could get those results? Sealant ? Wax?
It almost seemed oily as I was washing..thanks tom
How can I find out

Hi Tom,
I would say if he had it professionally detailed then it could of had a fair old but of cleaning done to it eg machine polished clayed wax etc.small scratches or swirls and contaminants can almost haze the original / true colour of a car. If you keep on top of it you'll be able to keep it as good as you've seen, just use a good quality shampoo, a polish or glaze can help to remove/mask any imperfections to a small degree , claying with leave a smooth as glass finish and ensure there's no nastys embedded on your paint that could cause any harm , and finally wax, lots to choose from mainly durability / appearance or factors some show waxes will produce a much deeper shine but may have slight less durability, either way wax will help to protect the car and also help towards that glossy finish, which will also give you water beading and make basic washes easier the weeks after

Probably just sealant followed by a wax. Not used Meguiar's Gold Class but it looks to be a conditioning shampoo, like AutoBrite's Banana Gloss, in which case it will feel oily in use, since it's designed not to strip off the applied protection. If no protection's been applied, it won't feel as oily.

After a car has been clayed the paintwork will feel like this as it takes off all the road grime and dirt you can't really see, it leaves the paintwork as smooth as glass. Very easy to do, and only really required once or twice yearly to keep the paint fresh. Follow the claying with a wax or sealant which will help protect the smooth finish.
