DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
I have attempted on a few occasions to get the car to regenerate but it doesn't seem to want to.
I have a fear that it is now too full and it will not regenerate. I don't quite understand why the car would not regenerate in the first place.

Re: DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
It's quit full with 45 grams but with vcds it must be possible.
First drive your car nice and warm.
You can also perform it while driving, would prefer that because its getting very hot. But you have to do it with 2 persons.

Re: DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
Tried that all yesterday, I was at my parents some 200 miles away had a passenger in the car with me and VCDS followed the instructions and it wouldn't regenerate.
Coming home it put the engine management light on and came into limp mode. It just will not regenerate in any instance.
When i tried it idle standing a couple of weeks ago it sort of started then after half an hour it said error on VCDS.
Nothing I do seems to get it to generate.

Re: DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
Hmm and what fault codes do you find if you perform a scan?
Sounds like a hardware failure. Normally the soot level never gets that high.
I would be very cautious with it. How much is the pressure differential of the dpf?

Re: DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
If you look af this page you see the carbon mass is just at the level a emergency regeneration cant be performed any more.(see picture)
http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthread. ... using-VCDS" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But 60 ml oil ash volume is very low on your filter. Mine has 109 ml, i drive mainly highways.
So i think something is blocking a good regeneration on your filter. Replacing it looks very soon. So first do a full scan of your car. But you cant drive further with it if you dont want to damage your engine. There are workshops that can take the dpf out and put it in an oven for a night and then blow the ash out with air. Its a lot cheaper then a new filter.

Re: DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
If that 326 mbar in the fault code is the pressure differential of your dpf than its way too high. Normally mine is just at 100 mbar max when driving that speed when regenerating.
There are workshops that can take the dpf out and put it in an oven for a night and then blow the ash out with air. Its a lot cheaper then a new filter. Or maybe the dealer can overide the 45 gram limit to force a regen but i would be carefull with it. It can cause a fire.

However as you say, will it happen again after it is cleaned?

I changed that message, i dont see other fault codes so i think cleaning/replacing the dpf will solve the problem.

Re: DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
I'm just a little suspicious why it never wanted to regenerate in the first instance, makes me think, like you said previously that something else is a problem

Re: DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
Ok so before you hit 45 grams you already tried several regenerations with vcds? That would be very weird.
If your car i still under warranty i would take it to the dealer.

Re: DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
No it's six years old and out of warranty, and yes I kept trying to regenerate it and it would not work. Also the car kept idling at 1 or just above. The car has has Revo stage 1 update performed on it around a year and a half ago, not sure if this has affected it in any way.

Re: DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
Ok, you can always ask the people that did the remap they can take a look at it.
Often they are very experienced with this kind of problems.
I have a remap too, and no problems with it. it regens every week after +/- 700 km because i drive a lot of mileage.

Re: DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
It's just very strange that it has been acting a little funny since the update or my perception of it is that it is a little funny, also when they did update it, it seemed that it the turbo wasn't kicking in until 2500 revs before something happened.

Re: DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
The turbo can also be part of this problem because it plays a role in the regeneration proces.
Did you had any fault codes on them in the past? Its difficult now because you can make a log anymore.
I would go to that revo shop and let them check it out. I disabled the egr with the remap software, it doesn't affect regeneration for me.

Re: DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
I think I will take it to the local one, the dealer I took it to is far too far away, some 300 miles and I don't really want to drive the car in limp mode for that long (not exactly advisable).

Wich message did you get when you tried the regen with vcds? You also entered the security code?
There is an option to reset the carbon mass under basic settings so you can perform a regeneration after that.
But i dont recommend it because of the danger with the high carbon load.

Re: DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
It just gave a message in the window saying error, no other message was present and this was after performing it for around 30 mins. It was the only time it worked. I find it strange that it would ask you to pump the brake and clutch pedal 10 times, then once you have done it once it says pump throttle, but it does not repeat this 10 times, it then just starts (well once).
No I will do a chemical removal, my fear is after this has been done what is to say that it will not happen again since it clearly for some reason that is beyond me doesn't want to regenerate when driving in passive mode.
I have received one quote thus far from a Terraclean agent who quoted £250. Once all the other places open on Monday I will contact and compare, then decide which.

And do you have any progress, did the chemical cleaning work for you?
Lets hope so.

Re: DPF Regeneration with VCDS not engaging
Literally just got it back yesterday, I took it to a VW specialist, they replaced the boost pressure sensor and ran it through a clean. Plugged in VCDS and it read as 0 on the accumulation last night. I did call up about a chemical clean with Terraclean, wasn't impressed to be honest, they wanted £250 to do it but don't think they would of found the route of the problem.
Lets see if that resolves the issue.
