The car is now pulling to the left yeah so must be either damaged tyre, faulty tyre or damaged alloy.

I will switch it to the rear and see how it feels.

Thanks for everyones help throughout.

So got the tyre now changed to rear and problem seems to have disappeared. Got the alloy took out the tyre before the swap over and that was fine.

I think what lee said is that it's probably tyre conicity - a poorly manufactured tyre.

Would I have much chance of taking it up with continental about a replacement?

You could try but they'll want the tyre to do tests on and you'll still have to buy another tyre in the mean time as they'd have the tyre for months before you get a decision. However a few tweets/Facebook posts to them won't cost you anything and might encourage a good will gesture.

If it were me I'd just put both new tyres on the back, fire off a few tweets (if they're on twitter) and leave it at that for now. I'd be looking to move away from Continental tyres too, I've never been a fan and find the likes of Vredstein much better for less money.
