RCD Bluetooth

Post by geemobee »

Hi Chaps,

I just bought a Salsa Red 2010 2.0TSI Roc.

Loving it!

How do I get the Bluetooth to work on my RCD510 (Touch Screen with 3 bottons on each side)?

Sounds like you need the Bluetooth module as it's probably not installed. If it is, you'll find a box under the drivers seats

On a 2010 car Bluetooth was a cost option. It didn't become standard until the last quarter of 2011.

As said, the module is located under the driver's seat in a styrene box, if you have it. If it's fitted, you also get a phone menu within the MFD alongside the settings and audio ones.

What exactly do you have to do to get the bluetooth working? Is a cheap module off eBay just as good as any? and also is it easy to install yourself or is it a garage job?

Bluetooth modules is one of the most common areas of discussion on this forum, so a quick search should furnish you with the information needed.

I'll Jack this thread a little now lol. I've just spoken to Volkswagen & they've just told me there's no way to retrofit a Bluetooth module, now wether that's purely in my car they're talking about or not I'm not sure. They had my reg so maybe it's just my car? I figured the wiring would be under the seat just not the rest of it & modules etc

Well they are wrong haha. Many people have fitted them via vw or other companies, I've installed two myself and will be installing another in the next few weeks..... so I don't understand what's not doable about it

From reading on here I'd of disagreed with Vw too. I'm still none the wiser which part number I actually need for my unit mind

Ok so I've been on ETKA & stuck my chassis number in. Car was produced 28.10.09 & it says 9W0 without car phone prep/installation.
Can it still be done?
I've McPherson the following part numbers if anyone knows if these will work?
Module 5K0035730D & Mic 3B0035711B

I need this to work with a HTC one M8 & an iPhone 5 onwards though. Mostly just want to be able to Bluetooth music really

Finally just checked under my seats & there's no wiring on show other than for the seat. Should there be wiring easily visible or could it be tucked away under the carpet?

Shaun are you using this link for ETKA http://vagfans.info/EN/volkswagen/parts-catalog" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My module is under the carpet next to the seat runner on the drivers side, at least I think that's what it is...

Irvysan I used the works one mate, doesn't look like that but I'll save that in my phone in case I need it though thanks. [THUMBS UP SIGN]
There's definitely no module there which I expected, just don't know wether I should be able to see any cabling for Bluetooth if it was ran through all cars but not used in some.

Why is there a confusion on part numbers to use?!?! A fail safe method is to go for the latest bluetooth module on the market.

Earlier versions sometimes are not compatible with A2DP streaming and don't display track info.
there is a list of bluetooth modules and their capabilities on the ross-tech website. I think I linked this on the thread that cuprabob posted.

There was one that ended on eBay without selling, was only £10 starting bid too but the guy said he's upgraded to a newer one as it doesn't work with iPhone 5 upwards so no doubt it won't work with my HTC one m8 either.
As far as part numbers go I'd read that certain head units work with certain modules. I don't want to be spending hundreds if there's one that I can buy substantially cheaper that will work for me.
I still need to know about the cabling under the seat, is it pre ran under the carpet in all cars or just the ones that have Bluetooth

So, I read the manual and I can now make and receive calls via BT. This means that I have the module right?

I cant however make the BT to work with playing songs from my cellphone?

What am I missing here? it is still a grey'd out option on the media settings.

Sounds like you have an old module which is not compatible with music playback

Bluetooth music playback is awful anyway, so you're not missing out on much.
