Rough running.
Please excuse my nievety, but its been a while since i owned a petrol car.
When i first set off in my 2.0 tsi, the engine seems lumpy. It feels like its not getting enough fuel as its not as harsh as a misfire. It also occasionally does it after the engine has reached running temp.
Is this normal?

Re: Rough running.
i had the issue with a 1.4 TSI, it got progressively worse and eventually i thought it was a misfire, but i changed the spark plugs and the problem went away, check your service book to see when they were last changed, because it turned out mine hadn't been changed for 4 years :S. Thats from personal experience so probably best off waiting for a guru to come along haha! hope that helped anyway

Cheers mate. I bought my car from a car supermarket and i'm reluctant to take it back under warranty as i don't trust the 'technicians' there.

Re: Rough running.
No worries! yeah, my car only goes to VW or my friend who works for BMW and my self work on it! But in terms of the rough running, if it's not too bad, I'd wait 10 days see if it gets worse and if it gets rougher it's most likely plugs, because 65 quid isn't cheap for a shot in the dark!

Re: Rough running.
I'm tempted just to replace plugs anyway to save hassle of going to trader. They did an oil change for when i picked the car up so i might change all the filters too just to be safe. Does the 'rocco have 2 plugs per cylinder or just one? Also whats the best brand to buy? I've seen NGK, Bosch and Denso.

Re: Rough running.
Just one plug per cylinder.
Although you say it's not misfiring it could be a coilpack or the MAF.
A scan with VCDS should point you in the right direction.

Re: Rough running.
I don't think its misfiring but there is a definate flat spot under load that eases when the engine gets hotter.
A stupid question, but whats a MAF?

Re: Rough running.
Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor measures the air going into the engine and along with some other parameters is used by the ECU to calculate fueling. It's located between the airbox and the inlet manifold.

Re: Rough running.
I went with NGK from VW, if you have no warning lights, and a flat spot, it sounds a lot like the same issue I had! But yeah, getting it booked in would be a good move, my car is in VW as we speak for 1,300 pounds worth of repair, courtesy of VW them selves

Re: Rough running.
Ouchy!! Had a similar bill for new flywheel and clutch on a Passat CC. Unfortunately i had to foot the bill. It stings a bit paying out for something you can't even see.
Im gonna speak to garage tomorrow and see what they say.

Re: Rough running.
Yeah. Spark Plugs. Went into Halfords today, £20 for 4 plugs. £7 for the tool. Took me about half hour. All sorted. Feels so much better.
Thank you for you're help and advice. It was invaluble and saved me money! Plus I didn't need to deal with the garage.

Re: Rough running.
Sorry to high jack this thread. I too have similar symptoms. When accelerating gradually from 30-40mph, the car judders as if it's not getting sufficient fuel. But at high speed it is ok. Do you guys think it's the same problem? It's done just over 41000 miles.

Re: Rough running.
Certainly sounds similar to the issue i had. I suspected fueling or ignition but thought i'd run it by these guys first. Mines done 85k. Mine was playing up at between 10 and 40mph. Its always best to start from the bottom and work your way up. I got my plugs from Halfords for £20 for 4(NGK - Pfr7s8eg) The tool was £7 and about 30 min to do. Im guessing you've got the same 2.0 TSI?

lokyt, yeah that sounds about right. As sheriff said, a new set of plugs should do the trick!

Re: Rough running.
Hi guys, thanks for the replies. Yes think so. I will give that a go see if it works. It just feels a bit groggy. Not as responsive.
