clutch mooing main dealer price for change

Post by 3wrlcs »

Hi, I have a mooing clutch on my 2009 car that I have had for 3 months. It is an approved used VW and I hope it will be changed under warranty. However, with 52k on the clock this will be a tricky road. My local dealer will not give me a price to replace the clutch stating that they don't work like that and I have to take it in. I have a quote for £1100 for a clutch and flywheel replacement from a very reputable independent vw specialist but I would like to know what to expect from a main dealer. I have searched and found a lot of info about this fault so I am convinced it is not a worn out plate but the dealer is bound to say that it has to come out to be inspected and once this happens you are pretty stuck and not likley to get them to put it back to go elsewhere.

I have exactly the same problem, only when cold though then goes away. Be nice to know how much you end up paying, my plan was to just wait til the clutch actually needs replacing and put up with the noise, not ideal I know.

If I have to pay i may go for an uprated clutch anyway as I plan a stage 1 remap in the future. Either way i will try the dealer for help this week and update after that.

Following a demonstration of the noise to one of the mechanics at the local VW garage I have left the car to have any work needed done. Only once the existing clutch and flywheel are examined will I know if it is under warranty. The mechanic suggested that it is most likley a release bearing and he checked out the TPI that is on an earlier thread but that doesn't apply to my actual vehicle. Worst case is £1400 for new clutch, release bearing and flywheel (clearly main dealer prices) but if I want any chance of warranty cover then I' need this done at an approved dealer. If this is not under warranty then I will be claiming against the dealer I purchased the car from.

Hope it is covered, that is a ridiculous price though, shouldn't be anymore than 700-800 in my eyes. I only paid 500 for a clutch a couple of years ago on my Golf GTI.

Turns out to be a very small amount of oil depositing on the release bearing from an oil leak around the shaft from the gearbox. The new seal and labour is covered under warranty, I did argue that the clutch failure was as a consequence of this but no luck yet. I need to pay £355 for the clutch and release bearing parts and no labour, I'll decide whether to bother pursuing this any further with VW.

Overall not too bad.
