Air or Coilovers?
Hello all
I've come to a slight crossroads with what i want to do with regards to suspension on my R.
I was first set out on a set of KW coilovers with adjutable DDC for variable damping. - http://www.awesomegti.com/car/vw/sciroc ... w-scirocco" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I have had some interest in air before, Luke at Plush automotive runs performance struts and bags on his 600bhp RS4 in which he swears by.
I then came across this video - http://www.airliftperformance.com/airvscoilover/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
this really changed my mind on things after seeing how they performance struts handled against coilovers, and now i feel like i should get air, way better for day to day use as you have so much adjustment whilst with coilovers you have to take all the wheels of etc etc. So after seeing how modern air really does handle im stuck between what to buy.
HELP

Talk about unbiased.....
Re: Air or Coilovers?
depends if you bought your car to be a scene queen or more for driving
i am struggling to think of any race teams or manufacturers who use air as standard on a performance model
Luke does stunning work but can't say i have seen the RS4 hooing it around

Re: Air or Coilovers?
Hmmm, dare I say "unsprung weight" ? That will be the reason no one uses air in a performance car, the weight you add will negate just about all the performance gains.
The opening statement "When it comes to performance vehicles, one thing we can all agree on is that they look and handle better when they are closer to the pavement" sums it up for me, it's completely incorrect, yes they look better but going too low just screws up the handling.
I would stick with a proven product such as the KWs, there's a reason these are fitted to a lot of real high performance vehicles....they work!

Re: Air or Coilovers?
Hi Guys I have had the MSSKIT on my car for around 6 months now, If your looking for great looks with improved performance please take this kit into consideration. After testing 3 Kits we have finally come up with what we agree feels the perfect set up. The car handles a dream retaining all 3 function modes which cannot be achieved with your two mentioned options. I would say come out for a drive in mine and see the quality for yourself. http://www.msskits.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; CONTACT William for more info on release dates!

Re: Air or Coilovers?
But that's just a set of springs not a damper replacement as the OP is looking for. The KW DCC kit replaces the original dampers and still has the 3 settings you mention.

So would you pay full retail for this kit and if so why?Mltyson89 wrote:Hi Guys I have had the MSSKIT on my car for around 6 months now, If your looking for great looks with improved performance please take this kit into consideration. The issue I found with roc DCC was I thought the damper settings were poor

Re: Air or Coilovers?
The damper settings were causing problems finding the right set up for the scirocco, I think after 3 attempts we have found the one. I am very pleased with the product and am still unable to pick any faults with this set up. I would say its at the correct hight for where I wanted the car, yes on air you can go ridiculously low which looks great for photos but does air suspension perform around a track??
The only problem I can see with the MSS kit would be the limit to lowering the rear end currently is 40mm, however William has made a new adjuster for the rear allowing a larger drop for those who wish to go lower. This set up has gave me confidence cornering at higher speeds and accelerating through corners, Whereas OEM higher speeds you certainly felt the roll! I never got the standard springs on track which could have provided me with more of a comparison between the two set ups where it counts, hope this info helps!

It would be interesting to put you in an R with the KW or B16 Bilstein suspension fitted so you can experience a well sprung and well damped car.

Re: Air or Coilovers?
I think that I am going to go for the DDC coilover kit. as you all said air just has not been proven yet, as well as the huge price tag attached and large amount of added weight.
I will keep you all updated once i get the new coilovers and fitment sorted with my new wheels

I would also like an spin in a R with the KW or B16 kit fitted to compare the two!
