Passenger window problems

Post by Jam17 »

Hi All,

So I noticed that my windows appear to be haunted! The main issue is that my passenger side window sometimes drops itself automatically when I want it to go back up. The scenarios are:

1. If the passenger window has been over halfway down, when I click it back up it opens itself. Then when I try to put it back up it gets about halfway up then goes back down. I try this about 3 times then the window stays down and won't move at all. Had to leave it a few hours and re try it again. Good job this hasn't happened whilst I've been in town!

2. Say both windows are down, but not 100% down. I use my drivers side control to double click them both shut;
Either a) They both simultaneously go up then drivers side opens itself,
or b)They both simultaneously go up then passenger side opens itself.

So I've read various posts on forums with people having similar, but not exact same problems with their Sciroccos, and just last week i was telling my mate with an Audi A3 about it and he said he's experienced the same thing, and also on another friends Passat. So this may be a VAG Group problem?

Some forums tend to point the problem at slightly dirty windows, so the window may think a body part is blocking the window, and so a safety feature kicks in and re opens itself. However I've now ruled this out as I gave the window a proper clean inside out, and the problem occurred straight away.

People that have experienced this problem have tended to take it in and get the problem fixed with a replacement ignition switch, but I'm thinking that could prove costly as I've just come out of warranty. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, is there anything I can try myself before booking it in?
