Re: Insuring the Rocco
Well there are some advantages of being older my TSI 2.0 DSG is £187 fully comp, I do have 10+ years NCD.
I also own a fireblade which is insured via Bennetts and although they are by far the cheapest £88 this year I have to go through the renewals process as my renewal quote is about £145 so I have to let the cover lapse for 1 day then go in as a new customer to get the savings.
I've never stayed with my car insurance company for more than 1 year as the renewal quote is always extortionate.

Re: Insuring the Rocco
Oh you know I did actually look in to this before and I decided I could not handle something like that in my car, I think I'd feel like I'm constantly being monitored!!! Out of interest I did do a quote including one of these and it put it up by £50! Odd... LolWithnail wrote:Sarah, this is worth investigating.

Re: Insuring the Rocco
I recently put a dash cam in my Rocco (thanks to some excellent advice here) so maybe that would be worth mentioning when you try for a quote. It doesn't monitor or log your speed etc but it's a safeguard.

However, they had increased my excess from £350 to £600 which I considered to be a bit of a cheek so after a bit of shopping around I got the same cover with Hastings Direct for £280 with an excess of £150. I then contacted Churchill to tell them I wasn't renewing with them and explained why at which point they offered to equal the Hastings quote and excess; they seemed a bit put out when I declined, telling them that if they were able to meet the quote why didn't they quote it in the first instance and that to me that smacked of sharp practice and trying to fleece existing customers. The moral of the tale is to shop around every year whatever your renewal quote, you never know, you may pick up a bargain as all insurance companies are desperate for new business and with the interweb it's so easy.

That's my thoughts exactly on insurance and others who won't give you a competitive price upfront but think its OK to come good later when they see you've shopped around and found better elsewhere. Give your business to the the company who gave you a good price at the first time of asking.
Re: Insuring the Rocco
Esure seem to be cheap this year - 500 fully comp, £350 excess, 5 years NCD in Manchester postcode. I'm leaving Admiral this year as they're still after more than a grand.
Anyone had any experience of these "black box" policies? how do they work then?

Re: Insuring the Rocco
Last two years I was insured in VW Insurance, which uses Allianz. I even renewed with them because price was competitive. But this year price increased and I had to find something new. I went through broker and bought insurance in Allianz again. Also adding extra 18K mileage taking it to 30K per annum increased the price by £100. Paid in total £635 (with legal cover and european cover).
What is interesting, when I was with VW and changed mileage from 6K to 12K price went down.

The more average you are the lower the perceived risk.AgaZaKa wrote: What is interesting, when I was with VW and change mileage from 6K to 12K price went down.

Re: Insuring the Rocco
Yes, I thought the same. Unfortunately when I declared 30K miles it went up. Anyway this year renewal was much higher than competition offered, and VW didn't want to negotiate at all.Cuprabob wrote:The more average you are the lower the perceived risk.AgaZaKa wrote: What is interesting, when I was with VW and change mileage from 6K to 12K price went down.
Well, it's probably because of your age.Sarah wrote:Vw quoted me £17,000 before my accident
I checked recently Mercedes insurance for my future car, just to test the waters, and it quoted me 4 times more than other companies. Specialised insurance ;-)

Re: Insuring the Rocco
Yep, I would agree, or at least for those of us in Manchester area. I was with Sheila's Wheels - which is the same company as esure. Got better quotes on line for both of them (almost identical) than my renewal quote but as I was already with Sheila's Wheels I couldn't take that quote as it was for new customers only. I could take up the equivalent esure quote though.cakebandit wrote:Esure seem to be cheap this year - 500 fully comp, £350 excess, 5 years NCD in Manchester postcode. The daft thing is that when I rang up Sheila's Wheels the advisor offered to transfer my policy there and then over the phone to esure for me.

Re: Insuring the Rocco
What I meant was the closer to the average 10k-12k annual mileage the lower the risk.
I do 30k miles a year too and unfortuantely that's seen as a higher risk :-)
