Re: Not sure which tires

Also consider winter or all seasons tyres. I have full winters on 4 corners for 2 years ( not changing them over in the summer) on original rims and had no problems whatsoever. When it snowed recently in the Midlands, I had no issues about being stuck.

Re: HELP Needed - Misfiring 1.4 TSi Engines

I recall VW had some recalls relating to the engine software. Check to see if your car had them applied.

Re: Fuel flap won't release

I had this problem last year. After doing some research ( from this forum no less) i managed to change it myself.

It can be done but i cursed VW every second, as they have made the access of the cable plug end ( thats links the flap pop-up unit) so deep and awkward.

Re: Another 2010 1.4 tsi 160bhp engine fail

I recall several years ago VW did a recall to reprogramme something to do with the engine management. It was free and software relate. I am not sure if this update is related to these misfire issues, but i guess its worth checking now, and ask the dealer about it if there is a missing update.

I bet next year, that data plug will send accident data to the insurers, so that they can call you and ask if you want to claim!

Re: How long have you owned your Scirocco?

Mine is from Feb 2010 , from brand new and done just over 70k miles. No modification at all to the engine and everything is still factory standard. The only issue i am fearing of , is the timing chain problem that affects all 1.4Tsi engines. I have done some research and its scary... About 2 year ag...

Re: Extended warranty

I see your point Cuprabob, but the possible failures might be more than what i save annually. I had a quote warrantywise at 340 £ per year, and it seems very comprehensive. The question is , if i put away the amount as a saving, would 340 be enough to repair a major failure? Some failures ( if i am ...

Extended warranty

Hi people, I am at the 58k stage and just had the waterpump changed, after the pink coolant was leaking and the engine area developed a 'tin can slapping' noise over x'mas. This had led me to consider taking out an extended warranty policy because as the car gets older, and being a 1.4 TSI ( with a ...

Re: Cloth or leather interior?!

Nowadays, they use cheap leather that will stretch and worn in no time. Soon you will get an M shaped bum indent. I would go for those seat specialist who make bespokes leather seats. You can choose different types of leather too. I remember a place in the UAE who can offer you a unique python skin ...

Re: Hollow sounding passenger door

have the car had a repair done on the door? I am asking because i sell a product called sound deadening pads. they are heavy asphalt like pads you stick on the inside panel of the door, floor and boot, to absorb sound. I have sold less since the onset of the recession because bodyshops are scaling b...

I never over steered, even when i tried on snow. However, a few years ago i had fitted some cheapo chinese tyres to my previous car and my God! I was doing 360 pirouettes every time it rained.

i don't remember seeing one being sold by halford. Perhaps its just quicker to get it online from detailer e-shops. I am in the process of buying one that removes tar as well as Iron at the same time. Iron-x its called.

Re: Why do you need wide tires?

i think winter tyres have softer rubber compound, which should warm up faster and thus grips better on cold surface. That might helped the noise level too. I had just swapped mine over recently from winters to the same bridgestones, but not noticed any difference as i never drive without the radio o...

Re: im worried!

mine was new from Jan 2010. I remember i had 2 engine related recalls involving an engine software update. Not sure if they were related. If those were done, then 2 less things to worry about.

My concern is the 9k miles. why so little? its less than the average of 12k per year for most people.

So far I have not heard anything yet. However, last winter mine had a 'software crash' on the control unit ( forgot the name of the component) and have to have a reset. it was over 300 pounds.

I doubt they will do any big recall in the UK. We are always gets shafted here.
