Auto-light: retrofit

Hi! As You see from my profile I own a Polo GTI latest model on which I am putting (money and time permitting) all of those things VW Italy (meaning the importer) didn't, eg. power interior mirror with autoshade function and light/rain sensor (also known as mirror package).
Since this sensor support as well the light function I was thinking also about activating the Leaving home function (Coming has been already activated via VAG, then working just pulling the hi-lights lever for a while before getting off the car with door open/closed and without the keys into the starter).
Point is: to have the leaving home, I need to put lights switch on AUTO, 'cause the light sensor will give the impulse on the light switch and then turn them (low-lights or static lights, depending on what I choose via VAG) but on Polo I have no such function, just position and low-lights.
Therefore I bought a switch on ebay (part 3C8941431A), like this
BUT
Mine is like this but I have chromed knob (part : 6R0941431G)
And it is longer!
Consider it's the same fitted on Golf 4
So now I have to ways:
- Don't put it
- Put it but with some modification
And this modification are connecting the exhisting harness to the pins behind using a proper socket BUT
- I don't know PIN order
- I don't know which is the part code for this socket (the one on the first picture, the far left connector!)
Can anybody help me?
Thanks in advance!
Ben

You need the light/rain sensor fitted first really

Yes it is already connected as You say; what I don't have on my module 09 is Bit 5 in Byte 0, nor Bit 2 Byte 4 nor voices on my white MFD (see
Here); only thing I have on MFD is "trip mode" Polo is poorer
Maybe upgrading the Cluster firmware I can get more info!

Hi Ben
As i can see, you start a new mod.. but you didn't complete your camera mod yet...
But i agree : since you paid the mechanic, he must complete the job.
About your new mod now :
1. The part number of the 10pin connector for your new light switch is "8E0 971 980"
2. I cannot find anything about the pin order of the connector. The only thing i can do is to take two photos of my connector, just to see the wire color of each pin.
Pin 1-5
Pin 6-10

I don't know if the modification of your connector will be an easy job..
How many wires has your connector now?
I believe that you have less than 10 wires now. So you have to find which lines are missing.... A diagram is the only way i think

Even if I cold take a better picture yesterday making harness go out
About PINs order check Your pics: it's possible to read them on both of the lower sides of connector itself; only thing I hope is the cables color I have is the same You have
what I don't remember on my connector and don't understand from Yours is if there is any other wire to be connected on the central hole of connector!
Can You please check meanwhile?

I know that "it's possible to read them on both of the lower sides of connector itself". That's why i sent you the photos
What do you mean "central hole of connector" ???
There is NO other wire. Just the 10pin connector.

Hahaha! Sorry for the misunderstand ok?
About hole: if You see the rear of switch first one on the left of my first picture) I mean the center of the rear itself!
Now I only have to buy the plug

No problem Ben
Trust me.. The only connection with the switch is the 10pin connector. Nothing connects there. That hole is not a socket.
The first thing you have to do is to check how many wires has your connector right now...
and then buy new connector "8E0 971 980"

Perfect, then putting this I will have:
- Auto light (with the bixenon)
- Leaving home (coming is already active)
?
About the leaving I have another question: which light sensor will give the impulse for the LH? the one in combination with rain sensor or the one on the outer shell of the mirror or both?
Ps of course You have this switch on Your car don't You?

Yes I have it.
You have to install the new switch, make the necessary VCDS coding and everything will work !
I believe that the Rain-Light sensor is the one for Auto Lights - Coming / Leaving Home.
The other one on the mirror is just for the mirror auto dimming, as it says here

(the one on the far right is white/yellow)
So they are ten, as Yours
BUT the reason is simple: I already make pass the the extra cables for rain/light sensor and auto-dimming mirror; this means I just have to buy the plug, connect pins, switch and codify! and it seems to me they are in the order as Yours
Only thing I have one cable which is black/red while You have one different, but since I know it shouldn't creat any problem
Only thing, as I said, the voices I can see on VAG/MFD are less than Yours (on Scirocco) even if I can select coming/leaving home
What do You think about?

Great Ben
You have already passed the extra lines, so i think that you will not have any problem now.
What version of VagCom do you use?
What do you mean by "voices"?? The MFD menu about Coming / Leaving Home ?

Reading
this GUIDE I don't have, if I remember well:
- All of the voices You have in LIGHT AND VISIBILITY Menu but just Travel mode, which put bixenon a bit "lower" than standard height
- on VAG (I use 10.6 with unoffical cable) the Assistance Driving Light Leaving home (as well foot wells, which I fitted with mechanic)
I can post here screenshots of what I see on VAG while on MFD this what I see:

What do You mean by:
Do I have to connect light/rain sensor and mirror BEFORE replace the switch and then (after replacing the switch itself) I can calibrate and VAG the AUTO Function? 'cause I fitted them w/o replacing the switch but the glue mechanic used wasn't too good so now I have to fit them again!
Or any other idea?
About calibration, I heard best way is under direct light in the light sensor, right?

I have these, posted by a friend of mine:

- Polo switch harness (starting production in May 2009):

Since my car was produced in January 2011, I believe I need to use this last link with the first one as referrement, am I tight?
