Rear parking sensors fitted by dealers?
Rear parking sensors fitted by dealers?
Hey Guys,
Im new to this forum and just want to say hi and ask a few quick question.
Ive been thinking about a scirocco since i first saw piccs of the concept car in TG mag a while back and today i finally put my order down for one.
I went for a 2.0 TSI GT in the black as i think it looks stunning but am worried about it showing any scratches etc does anybody else have black? is it easy to keep clean?
I went for the cloth interior as the missus wasnt to keen on the leather and the cloth looked pretty good quality to be honest.
The only extras i specced were the Winter pack and rear parking sensors, the dealer however told me that if i wasnt fussed about the winter pack then they can get a car much sooner and i could take delivery by the 2nd week in March. Is the winter pack worth it? should i wait for it?
The= dealer also mentioned that the car didnt have rear parking sensors but that they could fit them at the dealership? will these be ok or will they be the rubbish looking ones that dont sit completely flush in the rear bumper?
Am i best just waiting a few weeks more and getting the exact spec that i want?
Also what other options have you guys gone for and what is good/bad in your opinions having lived with them for a few months?
Thanks for any help
Andy

Re: Rear parking sensors fitted by dealers?
Factory fitted sensors have an on screen display on the stereo, where as the dealer fitted ones are audio only, I believe that they look the same on the bumper though.
Re: Rear parking sensors fitted by dealers?
Ahh right, well i guess if im paying the same for them then i m,ay as well wait for the factory fitted ones if you get a bit more with them.

Re: Rear parking sensors fitted by dealers?
As extras I spec'd the following:-
Leather Interior - I personally wasn't keen on the fabric of the cloth seats but I guess it's mainly down to personal opinion. Also worth noting that leather gets you lumbar adjustment aswell whereas the cloth seats don't have this (May not bother you but I find it helps me get comfy and wouldn't be without it)
Rear Parking Sensors - AFAIK they're factory fit only and need to be wired up to the stereo. Not sure I'd trust a dealer to fit it TBH. I think they're a must have option given how bad the visibility is out the back of the Scirocco tho.
Electric Folding Mirrors - They're pretty cheap as an extras (£80) and the scirocco's a pretty wide car so people have mentioned they can be really useful when parking in a tight space or a small garage.
Flat Tyre Indicator - for £30 it's well worth having as it could save you a serious accident if you don't notice a flat tyre!
Smokers Pack! - I don't smoke but a cigarette lighers handy and I think the centre console looks un-finished without a cover for the ashtray (which the smokers pack gets you)!
I'd also have gone for Xenon lights if they're been available.
Depends how much you want the extras I guess as to whether you take the car the dealers offered or order one to exact spec. Even if you're happy with the spec of the car the dealer has tell him It's not exactly what you're looking for just to see if he'll knock something off the sticker price

Re: Rear parking sensors fitted by dealers?
i wouldnt bother with the winter pack really, i got mine just before 'the big freeze' and drove it to work every day, even the day half of the south came to a standstill, car heats up quickly, and with the correct mixture in the screenwash, it doesnt freeze anyway, cant see the point of heated seats if there not leather, only musts for me to spec are the tyre pressure monitor & rear sensors ( both of which i didnt spec
)

Re: Rear parking sensors fitted by dealers?
Cheers for the info guys.
Will be giving them a call then tomorrow to add the tyre pressure indicator and smokers pack, i think i will also stress that i want factory fitted sensors over the retro fitted ones.....if im paying i may as well get exactly what i want

I have the dealer installed ones.
Visually on the car, they look exactly the same as the factory fitted.
The audio is the same, and the only difference is the display, which while nice, I was not willing to wait for months for it.
How much time do you spend reversing your car???

Personally I find the visual feedback invaluable. I have had sensors on my last 4 cars and visual on the last 2 and when the beeping escalates just because something is near a corner, but not a risk to the manuever the visual display isllustrates this well.robrob wrote:I have the dealer installed ones.

Thats what ive experienced on my current A3.
Anyways ive ordered a factory build one now which has pushed the build time out from 3 weeks to 9 weeks! Never mind it gives me a chance to try and sell the A3 before i have to part ex it.
Anyone want to buy a 3 door 54 Plate A3 3.2V6 Quattro S-line DSG? 32000 miles and 9 months audi warranty remaining?

Re: Rear parking sensors fitted by dealers?
Has anyone investigated what's actually required to get the dealer fit parking sensors to display on the screen? I'm guessing just a wiring loom - can anyone have a look on ETKA?Zarger wrote:Factory fitted sensors have an on screen display on the stereo, where as the dealer fitted ones are audio only, I believe that they look the same on the bumper though.
