Scirocco Central

Firstly, Hi to the forum. I've lurked a while without posting.

I ordered a Rising Blue R a while back and specified a DSG gearbox. Having noticed that the car had arrived at the dealer, I couldn't resist popping over to have a look. As soon as I opened the drivers door and saw three pedals on the floor, I realised that something was not as it should be. A glance to my left and the sight of a gear stick confirmed my fears. The car has arrived in a 6 speed manual format, rather than the DSG as specified.

So, do I re order the car or shall I stick with the car as it is and save £1300??

I've never driven a DSG and was quite looking forward to giving it a try. So to those of you out there who may have driven both, what would you do, send it back or stick with it?????????

Iv driven both, although the DSG only for a test-drive. its a good gearbox and one of those things that people seem to spec without thinking about it. personally, i dont think you can beat the freedom of a manual and the involvement it provides can never be matched by the DSG. Plus it feels a bit like a Playstation at times. Having said that if you do lots of commuting, stuck in traffic etc, then DSG might suit you better. I suppose it depends on what the car is going to be used for. However, I would certainly say manual is a delight and by no means second rate, plus you save £1,300 = WIN!

if they have ordered the wrong one they should give you serious money off though. I would take it I have manual and agree with the above comments but I would push for a lot more than £1300 off.

If i ordered DSG i would want DSG !!, there would need to be a real serious serious reduction to get me to take the manual and i dont think they would give you the reduction i would want.

I agree with Strat, personally I prefer a manual over a DSG but I think you need to ask yourself if you really wanted a DSG. If you did, then I would get them to supply the car you have ordered otherwise you might end up regretting it in the long run. But if you are happy with the manual, then they should offer you a lot more off then £1,300.

Is everything else (options etc.) on that Scirocco, that you ordered? It may be the wrong car delivered!!?????

Personally I'd ask for a lot more than £1300 off for the car not being as ordered and for the dealer not telling me... they will have been told by VW many weeks prior to delivery that the car was mis-built if it had been factory ordered as DSG.

However in terms of DSG vs manual then TBH it is personal preference and very much a Marmite decision don't be swayed by comments either way. I'd ask the dealer to organise test drive in DSG and manual equipped cars then decide, they should have something on the fleet with both gearboxes e.g. Golf GTI, Scirocco GT, etc.

Personally having had the chance to try a manual Golf R I wouldn't swap my DSG car for a manual as I like the DSG box too much, but you should ignore me on this
