Change in company car rules means I have be under 150 g/km. Love the Roc but won't be able to have a petrol 2.0 again. Has anyone gone from petrol to diesel, either 140 or 170, and how was it in comparison? Never had a diesel so would be interested to know the differences, and in particular whether DSG is recommended as every diesel I have every driven needed a lot of gearshifts.

Thanks

Not gone from a TSi to diesel, (so not really "on topic") but have gone from 1.8T petrol Beetle (150PS) to 170PS TDi Roc.

You might find that the TDi goes nearly as well as your petrol but with less need to change gears - it will depend on your driving style and the sort of roads you normally cover. If you can get the 170 then do, as I think a drop of 60/70 PS will be a big disappointment but 30/40 you could live with.

Tell a dealer that you want an extended test drive - say two hours - and offer to return it with some extra fuel in. If they want to make the sale, they ought to say "Yes".

I went from a 250bhp R32 to a diesel (170) and do miss the sound of the V6 but the torque of the diesel makes the power gap feel less in rality thann it looks on paper.

My R32 was DSG and my rocco is manual so there are many more gearchanges in my case.

One thing I do notice is the lack of revs and the much higher gearing in the higher gears.

As above, only a good test drive will tell you what is best for you.

Not quite on topic either :) But I went from a 2litre Mazda3 to a Diesel 140 and wasnt as bad as I thought, Mazda3 was very heavy though.

The 140 pulls very well and the mpg is amazing, you can still dash about every now and then but still turn 600 miles a tank. You will still be able to out accelerate most cars and on motorways it cruises along easily up steep hills with the usual crowd, its more of a how fast do you want to drive ie. risk your license then the car lacking power ;)

I went from a 200bhp octavia petrol to 170. No problems at all. Its a quick motor.
DSG does work very nicely with the diesel too. Well worth the extra in my opinion.

Not gone from a TSi to diesel, (so not really "on topic") but have gone from a BMW Series 1 petrol to 170PS TDi Roc and we haven't really notice it.

My wife actually thinks that the Roc is the best car she has ever had.

Went from Audi S3 TFSI to a 170 bhp diesel, with a very short BMW 123d ownership inbetween and have had no problem adjusting to the diesel. Love the DSG and the way you can drive lazy or drive it like a manual, only thing that annoys me is the time delay from planting your right foot and anything actually happening, although it's ok if you drive it manually. The roc is much slower obviously, but i aint so bothered really, given the choice i would have the S3 but I need something that use less fuel at the moment.
