Someone on the Mk6 gti site had complained about the wastegate rattle and his dealer said they have ordered parts.So I did a quick google and found this " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The guy says it's not official but works, any body heard of an official or otherwise fix. Seems incredibly simple

Unbelievable. And VW couldn't come up with this two years ago?
Thanks for the post.

This sounds marvellous but the thread linked above all seems related to the USA, does anyone know if this potential fix is available in the UK? I wil be over the moon if this gets rid of the rattle, I hate it with a vengeance.

The snag is that the TSB it refers to is from VW of North America and I have no idea if the numbering (21-11-03) would be the same over here or even if it exists in the UK. It looks like one of those where one may have to shove it under the nose of a service manager in order to make progress so having the correct UK TSB would be a massive help, I am assuming that the part number is global however.
Does anyone have access to UK TSBs so it can be checked out?

The Bulletin reference is : 2021062/7 Dated: 18.08.11.. (Latest: 2021062/12, 12 Dec. 2012)
"Engine - rattling noises from engine exhaust system"
Fits the same part as the USA instructions in the 1st post. Part Number: 06J 145 220A
Problem:
Rattling or jarring noise from the area engine compartment/exhaust system occurs between 1900 and 2900 rpm.
Cause:
Because of exhaust gas pulsations, the flap and rods of the wastegate vibrate at the start of the boost air control, which causes rattling or jarring noises.
Solution:
Fit a spring clip on the wastegate adjustment.
Part:
06J 145 220A – Spring Clip.
Warranty:
Claim instructions are incorporated for dealer claim.

Well I've just booked mine in for it's second year service and told the person on the phone to add that TSB number and what it's about to the jobcard. We'll see what happens. I'm not too confident because service bookings for my local dealership go via their head office and so you're not talking to the actual dealership when you book it in. I expect an interesting conversation when I actually drop the thing off next month!
I'll let you know what transpires.

Very interested to hear how you get on. A few people have enquired on mk6 gti sites and the part is on back order apparently!
I'll be giving my dealer the nod when I'm less busy

Is this bulletin number recognised in the uk.? Ive spoken to mine and they know nothing about it. No surprises! Waiting on customer services checking with technical department. Ive ordered the clip myself and if vw uk wont change it then i will. Screw them.

The American one in the first post of this topic won't be, but this " 2021062/7" is on the system.

It probably doesn't show under your VIN because it's not a 'required' fix, it's allegedly something only done if the customer raises it as an issue.
It'd be useful to know how and where one tells one's stealers to look for it if a quick check under the VIN doesn't show it. Anyone know? I would have thought they can check by number and/or date but I have no idea. Mine's in Tuesday next week so any further info on how to help them find it would be useful!

Quite right except the VIN should show it up as I back checked several chassis numbers to mid 2008, so it covers both 200PS & 210PS rated 2.0ltr engines. (re-checked - 06.09.11 - still the case)
The customer has to state the engine has a problem, its not a recall or workshop campaign. So unless the customer states there is a engine rattle problem, the dealer will not do anything. It won't happen automatically.
Customer statement:
Rattling noise from engine/exhaust between 1,800 and 2,900 rpm
Then prompt the Service Agent at the Service Desk to look up "Technical Product Information" on the Service Desk computer screen. Then inform them of the bulletin reference 2021062 "Engine: rattling noises from engine/exhaust system" which was at issue "/7" on 18.08.11..
I have none of this trouble with my local dealers finding the technical on-line support. Its part of their job!
