Best way to find out is to go out and test drive a car with DSG it's a bit marmite. :)

Faster than Manual in a straight line race. Very Smooth fast gear changes (every time) great in traffic, not as involved on a A/B road or Track drive.

but that's what the flappy paddles are for, although still not the same involvement as you've no clutch control I guess.

I'm really impressed with the DSG, I wasn't sure I would like it but after taking a car out for a test drive I knew I would be speccing it. Most of my daily commute is sat in traffic, so it comes into its own then as I'm not changing up and down all the time.

The DSG is great when sat in heavy traffic and fun on B road blasts using the paddles but I will say it changes up into a high gear Very quickly I guess for economy.

It costs more than the manual, there are cases of the mecatronics control module failing, long term still not sure how reliable it is. Big money to replace out of warranty.

Also very play station so good for the lazy drivers. Can't beat a clutch and stick for involvement tho.

Also needs an oil and filter change every 40k miles at a cost of around £190, so slightly more servicing than manual.

I had DSG on my R32 and had no trouble with it in over 80k miles / 5yrs and really liked it but decided to go back to maunal for my Rocco for a change

Can't argue with that..... I've had my mechatronics unit replaced but I think it was dodgy from new. Juddering/Kangarooing when changing down to come to a stop. VW took longer than usual as apparently the Scirocco has a newer type of mechatronics unit than had been failing in the past - or that was just dealer bs!

But now it feel better than it ever was.

Downside, I'm going to be buying an extended warray to cover the DSG. Rather that than have to pay £1500 for the mechatronics or more for the clutch packs and gear box should they fail in future.

Stick to manual if you aren't sure imo. Would be bad having it and not liking it, but if you have manual, you'll never regret it.

Can't beat changing gear in a manual, no DSG can come close!
