Scirocco Central

Hi all,

Wonder if anyone can advise me about the centre console arm rest.

When i lift up the arm rest (the one the hides the ipod/aux connector) there are two little rubber squishy things that look like the lifted arm rest would sit on when it is put back down (if you get what i mean)

Should the arm rest, when lowered back into the down position sit on these rubber grommets or should it be about a centimetre away from them? It looks like the arm rest should sit on these, is my arm rest not sitting down further enough?

Is the armrest pushed fully back ? (you are aware it slides in and out as well as up and down ?), anyway the bottom of the lid should sit flush with the top of the base.

Yes it is pushed fully back, i had noticed that it does slide out and back in.

It is not fully sitting down flush with the top of the base and if i rest my elbow on it whilst driving it does seem a little high.

I will take it back this week and see if they can have a look at it

Have you noticed it locks at certain heights? If you lift all the way open it makes a sound and then you can close it all the way down if you don't get the click it will only go to the previous position...

Not sure if I'm making sense, but wen I picked the car up this week I was messing round with this in traffic with at seemed like the same problem you describe.

I do understand what you mean as i have had this on previous cars, but this is not working in this case, i have noticed that part of the plastic trim that covers the hinge on the drives side has broken off, maybe that is the cause of the problem?

I did try lifting it and no click was heard.

Any other ideas? or should i just get the dealer to sort out the problem?

When was the Scirocco built, May/June 2011 when you first posted? Or an earlier build?

Its on a 59 plate. Noticed a bit of black plastic has pinged off, a bit that covers the hinge. I think that piece resets a catch inside the main consul when the rest is fully open or closed. Took it on the dealers today and I have it booked in, they also replaced the number plate and have ordered me an ipod cable, all for free. What wonderful customer service, happy

What they will most likely find is a plastic peg in one of the hinges has broken (Or it has fallen out because of the broken cover). These have been substituted in production with brass pins since January 2010. They will replace both pins with brass ones.

You can just see the pin if you lift the arm rest fully up. On the inside half of each hinge part, the pin is just visible 1/3rd of the way up from the bottom edge. One will be missing.

If the pins are black in colour, they can be directly exchanged for brass pins.
If the pins are white in colour, the complete armrest unit has to be changed due to the pin diameter being different to the newer brass pins.

If it is broken, it should be a warranty claim.
