Scirocco Central

Hi, I have had a 2.0 TSI for a couple of months now and its a really nice car but the fact that it is Front Wheel drive really kills it for me. I also have a 3 series bmw and the driving experience is so much better.

My question, as the golf comes in a 4 wheel drive variant why not the scirocco?

The only Golf that has the 4wd Haldex system is the Golf R which they want to keep as the flagship model for marketing reasons hence why it also has a few extra bhp quoted over the Rocco R.

Also, I would suggest that so much work has been done to put more power through the front wheels that it's not needed and also the fact it's extra weight.

Add to that, the factory where the Rocco is assembled doesn't do cars with Haldex so they would have had to invest a fair bit of money for low volumes or build a small number of Roccos in the Golf factory, complicating matters even further.

Also, non of the Roccos competitors have AWD.

The Golf R wouldn't have had it if the R32 hadn't previously had it, IMO

Saying that I've owned a R32 for the last 5 years and the AWD the haldex system gives is great even if it's not true 4WD

Do you really need rwd or 4WD if not on a track or off road? I don't know, not really been bothered by it myself. Used to have a 320D a couple of years ago and I find my rocco is nicer to drive than that was, although the economy and performance of the engine in the bmw were great.

I much prefer RWD as a drivers car - but the Scirocco is an excellent FWD car... you can't eliminate physics completely though and having the same wheels doing the turning as the driving is compromised compared to a RWD system.

4WD has never really cut it for me either, too understeery!

Sadly though, for sensible money there are few decent RWD cars available.... FWD done properly can be leagues ahead for a mediocre 4WD or RWD system though!
