Scirocco Central

A couple of weeks ago I went out to work and my motor wouldn't start, I was turning the key and nothing was happening. I called the AA out who had it in bits on the road for half an hour and then had to tow me into my local dealers. No compression in the engine and not fixable either, a new engine at just over 34k

I'm not technical enough to give anymore details apart from what they told me on the service desk

Still it's going better than it ever did before.

So did you get the 210 PS one?

i am guessing they just changed the block as i had a new engine at 8,500 miles of which all they told me was new is the block.

how is the economy in the new engine? mine improved afterwards

When VW changed the engine on my R32 last year due to a porous block, they said they no longer did short engines which is basically the block and bottom end and as such it was a complete engine and only the ancillaries were swapped over.

Mine had done 67k when the issue was found.

Im looking at getting either a scirocco or 3 series coupe and the main thing pushing me towards the scirocco was the 2 ltr TSI engine and how its a good all rounder, 7.2 0-60 and about 33 real combined mpg. I was unaware of a problem with the engines and if this occurs outside your warranty i can’t see it being cheap! is this a common problem and are there any other problems with the car i should be aware of before buying one? any help would be much appreciated and if it makes a difference to the advice i will be buying second hand. Topper, its the first time I've seen/read of a 2.0 TSI engine issue. Your always going to get the odd one with a problem, but if you ask the VW tech guys or scan the forums its rare you see 2.0l engine with problem.

3 series wont give you any where near as much driving enjoyment. Take both on a sporty test drive and it should be obvious.
