First impressions

Post by Buckster »

Well after two days of driving around my first impressions are that the car is a real jekyll and hyde character, on one hand it feels like a much larger car on the motorway, it hides its speed very easily which is not very licence friendly, 90 feels like 60 did in my previous car, yet when parked I can see that it is nearly two feet shorter. In the twisties it feels like a small nimble car which it is and the 170 ps diesel sounds like a turbine when pressing on, the DSG box is sublime and the paddle shift is absurdly fast. Interior comfort is excellent, I am 6'4" and do not have the seat all the way back, the wide doors make entry and egress easy, and the viper green paintwork makes it the best looking roc on the road, fuel economy is great and I expect it to get a bit better with some miles, although I will also explore the performance some more once there are a few miles under the wheels, I know engines are "run in" on the bench these days but I still think they benefit from a bit of gentle use in the first 500 miles. Waiting for the neighbours to notice now, should get the first comments today. The car is getting a lot of positive attention on the road and has great road presence, it has some sort of optical illusion about it, it looks big an imposing until a point of reference is used, then it becomes svelte yet aggressive. Despite comments about reversing I am glad I did not bother with the sensors as it is easy to reverse, maybe us folk who have been driving for 25 years plus don't use the touch and go principle so freely. The only thing I am wary of is scuffing the alloys.
