The ROC arrives

Hi,
After a surprisingly short lead time (only ordered at end of January), I have collected my 2.0 TSI
In short, it's fantastic. Grip, responsiveness certainly much better than the old company car !
Love the truffle as it lifts the lighting level in the vehicle and makes a change form lava black look of past few cars I have had.
RNS510 is fairly intuitive and MFD excellent (although watch for wearing polaroid sunglasses as it can mask the view of the MFD, but not the RNS510). Dynaudio is very good. I have read posts where people have said that they are disappointed in bass levels. However, like home hi fi, the system provides deceptively high volume with no distortion. That can mean that the right volume level precludes conversation, but that can have its advantages depending on the passenger !
Dealer said to ensure warmed up (and the MFD has a digital oil temperature read out) and to avoid much above 45000 rpm for first 1000 miles. That enables generous motorway cruising speeds, but I have found that the responsiveness of the DSG can mean you exceed that unintentionally. Will have to go easy, but it's so tempting !
Tyre noise is more intrusive than I recall from the test drive, but after collecting the car I did cover concrete-section dual carriageway (always droney) plus the M40 (much of which is poorly surfaced anyway). Also on noise, the DSG-change exhaust note is cool, but I suspect that at truly high speeds say on an autobahn dash the exhaust note could get tiresome, but can always turn up the dynaudio !
Even after one day, static cornering lights and left hand reverse tilt mirror have saved me alloy scrapes (sadly I have to keep the car on the street). Also very impressed with the waves/thumbs up etc from Roc owners on the drive back to London.
Just the one photo so far -- wil try for something more arty in due course.
P

Very nice but I wouldn't have thought keeping it below 45000 rpm would not be an issue. Personally, I would be more conservative and keep it under 4,500rpm :-)

Can I ask what the static cornering lights are that you refer to?

When you go round a corner the appropriate fog light comes on and off

yes bob, but in this case tmfa is probably referring to the dedicated static cornering light within the xenon headlamp unit.
doug if you search the forum then you can locate an explanation

Is that dedicated static cornering light fitted to all cars with Xenons?

based on the fact its built into the standard headunit i'd say yes

Thanks for that, good to know. i assume the foglight on/off thing is therefore just for cars with halogen lights.

well spotted on the rpm typo Cuprabob, I must have been confusing it with the gas turbine models...
yes dougroc, the dedicated static cornering lights come with the Xenons. They comprise an extra bulb in the fixed unit with its own side reflector (unlike the active steering linked ones on the Citroen DS lights which older viewers may recall). They come on when you turn the wheel. It does take a bit of turning and is, apparently, active up to speeds of 25mph according to the manual. I haven't tried them at speed (hey, it's only day two of the car) but it seems to me they could be a very useful option for those who like doing donuts

Well it's been 7 days now and somehow I seem to have racked up 800 miles, a true testimony to the joy of the car. Of course, cynics might say I am just itching to get the mileage up so I can use the full rev range, although have crept in to it accidental thanks to over enthusiastic DSG kick downs
No gripes to speak of, other than RNS voice control not working [see:

The oil temp gauge is great -- handy to know that when pootling around there is a 5 minute lag between water temp reaching 90 degrees and oil temp reaching same
For any would-be purchasers who are wavering, sell your children and write the cheque. This car is pure "point and shoot" fun !
Will try to get some interior shots so you can see the truffle delight -- brown and the 70s are back !

Ok, some truffle pics -- hard to take without the whole thing looking fisheyed
I suspect that the colour polarises roc fans, but imho I like the move move away from black/charcoal (which I have have had in last three cars) but not going to beige or cream (which seems to make leather look like vinyl)

Enjoy the car, looks great with the truffle / candy combo..
Must be making a good impression to have done 800 miles so quickly.

Don't have a broadside as it were with the door open, but here's one where you can see (just) the truffle. My thinking is it looks much better than charcoal. I saw the cornsilk on a second hand model and it wasn't wearing well probably because it's so pale.

ps: here's an enlargement which I think does justice to the candy/truffle contrast

Yes, very good impressions. Also, two advantages of shopping for 'roc awaaaay from London -- sharper pricing plus you get a good contribution to running in on the way home !
