Missing Service Interval Display?
A bit of a mystery problem.
As much as I have tried, I cannot seem to get the service inverval up on my display. The "Service" submenu isnt shown on my white MFD, which I assume it should be, nor will the service interval display if I try using the trip reset button, as posted on here and Roccopedia, and using the other button on the dash as it is stated in the manual - which I am not sure is correct.
Using the trip reset button, the trip resets to zero than back again if I hold the button for over 2 seconds, but that is it - nothing is displayed. The other button just highlights the time to change that, and nothing else. I have trued this with the ignition off, half on, on, engine running, seatbelt on, seatbelt off, it just doesnt seem to work.
I have had my car from new for a couple of days over 12 months and have done just under 10,000 miles, so thought something would have come up everytime I turned the ignition on. My service book has been stamped time/distance, so I am assuming that is now, unless the dealer has not altered the service interval on the car itself. I cant remember what option I had now when I collected it.
Any ideas please?

If you've done 10k and you want T&D servicing just book the car in to VW. You don't have to wait for the car to tell you. While it's there i'm sure they'll sort out the MFD problem for you.

I have a 59 plate TDI with a white display and can't get any service info out of it either.
My previous Scirocco, a 58 plate TDI 140 with a Mid-Line red display worked as you describe, by holding the trip reset button for more than two seconds, but not this one.
I'm told that you can interrogate it with VCDS to find out when it thinks it will want a service but not from the menus. I assume that when it's getting near it will start counting down to let you know to book it in.
My car was a demonstrator, and so had an oil change when I bought it, even though it didn't call for one. I've done 17,000 miles since then and it hasn't called for a service yet. My previous TDI, a 140, didn't call for service until over 18,000 miles from new, so I'm not worried yet.

Mine didnt ask for a service until around 18K either, i thought this was deliberate given the long life oil etc? im assuming its quite alright to not service the car until the MFD tells you?

Re: Missing Service Interval Display?
My Sirocco is a factory order 170 TDI + GSD for Sept 2009 delivery, with the upgrades steering wheel.
I was getting worried when it got to 18,000 miles and had not indicated the need for a service, so I spoke to the local service department, as the service book was incorrectly marked as fixed servicing and about the service indicator not showing. I was told not to worry at it, left the factory as Long Life Service; it will tell me when it needs a service. I also tried to find the MFD Service Interval option but it was not there.
So at 27,000 and 18 months I have just had it serviced today as it had still not come on...... Low and behold on its return after being service, it now has a Service sub menu. I was told I must have accidentally reset it that is why it did not come on.... I wonder if you could post a picture of the display without the option, as I don’t like being lied to.
I just wish I had taken a picture of the display.

Re: Missing Service Interval Display?
Thanks for the picture, I'm now E-Mailing the dealer to find out whats going on.
Re: Missing Service Interval Display?
My car doesn't have anything on the MFD about service, looks just like the one above.
How does it look with the service option enabled?
Worried by the 27,000 mile service above, I've eMailed the dealer. They have said my car should be due now, so as I'm on pre-paid service I may as well get it booked in. I'll post again if it comes back with a "Service" option on the MFD.

Re: Missing Service Interval Display?
Even on longlife the maximum distance / time between services is 19k miles / 2 yrs.
Even if the car doesn't indicate a service you shouldn't run a car for 27k miles on the same oil.

Re: Missing Service Interval Display?
Just had mine serviced today. It was set to long life but book was stamped time distance, which it definitely is set to now.
I asked about the service menu and they have now sorted it so it is shown. What I am a bit puzzled by though is why it is saying 9300 miles when I have literally driven 20 miles back from the dealer?

Re: Missing Service Interval Display?
Yeah I know that mate, but I had it serviced today and drive straight home, so was expecting it to show something more like 9975 miles, not 9300. Seems a bit odd, although I am not sure if it does in hundreds of miles increments?

Re: Missing Service Interval Display?
It does it in 100 mile increments and also gives you 1000km (600 miles) grace so nothing to worry about
so, 9300+600=9,900 and you're already in the first 100 miles.
The 600 miles grace means it will flag the display 600 miles before the service is due to allow you time to book it it in

Re: Missing Service Interval Display?
In mainland Europe servicing is every 15,000km which is approximate 9,300 miles - it gets rounded up to 10,000 miles

Re: Missing Service Interval Display?
I asked for my car to be set for Long Life Servicing when I bought it, but the Service Book still says Time and Distance. It had an oil change service when I bought it at 4000 miles, so with the sort of mileage I do it's possible that it won't need a service for another couple of thousand miles, it's now showing a little over 21,000.
Having read some of the posts above I spoke to the dealer, worried that maybe there's something not quite right in the software, as I don't seem to have a "Service" menu on the MFD, and haven't been able to establish when service is due. The dealer has said the car is due and asked me to book it in. Maybe there's a know problem, as the cars above seem to come back from the dealer with a Service option on their MFD?
If mine does the same I'll post on here...

Re: Missing Service Interval Display?
I had my car serviced last week and mentioned the lack of a "service" option on the MFD when I booked it in. She didn't quite roll her eye but said she would get a mechanic to show me where the option was on the menus. He duly took me to the car and scrolled down the menus to where the option should have been and said "Oh.... It's not there".
He said there had been some cars that had the option switched off at PDI, and he thought my car must be one of them. He plugged it in and I now have a Service option on the menus. He couldn't say why it would have been turned off though.
