First Gear Selection (manual box)

Post by roadrat »

I sometimes experience a little 'graunching' through the lever if I select first gear whilst slowing to a halt, for example when approaching a junction.

Any advice on what may be causing this and suitable solution? I am not sure if it is a poorly adjusted/sticky clutch or a syncromesh weakness.

Thanks

TDI or TSI? Don't know if there's still a difference in gearboxes nowadays.
Is it less obvious if you blip the throttle or double clutch? Had this on my Leon, turn out to be the flywheel.

It's a 1.4TSI 160. I haven't tried blipping the throttle - mainly because the car will be stopped immediately after (e.g. at a junction) but I want to be in first gear at that point ready to go!

What was the fix on your Leon?
