Hit and Run!

Well, my beloved car got a nice bash yesterday as I frequented the local screw fix depot! The driver decided not to stay and chat and now I'm left with a nice long scrape down the drivers side rear panel. (See Attachments)

I cannot believe someone did this whilst either parking or reversing out the parking bay. The store doesn't have CCTV so also unable to trace them.

It's a company car so I'm guessing it's an insurance job but is there anyone that has seen this type of damage that can give me an idea of work involved? I've looked on the VW site and my local dealer (listers Nuneaton) is an authorised bodywork specialist so i'm guessing it goes there. Will it need a rear panel or a case of fill and spray?

Thanks

Chris

Sorry to hear that, it wont be a new panel, it should be pulled out and then filled a little and sprayed.

Might be able to trace the culprit by asking if your Screwfix could supply the names of customers who got served just before you (assuming the carpark serves no other shop).

As you need to be a registered customer with Screwfix, they'll have all the names and addresses (if customer confidentiality isn't too big a deal). If all the potential people who got served between you going in and coming out are well known to the Screwfix staff, they might even know what vehicles they have (if they've ever had to help carry something heavy to their car or van etc). Can you identify the colour of the car/van that's done the damage via paint transfer?

Lucky for you it's a company car and won't affect your no claims.

BTW - the bodyshop owned by my local VW dealership group is approved for VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Renault, Kia and Renault, but it is run by a bunch of trained monkeys who ruined my last car with shoddy repairs (replaced rear quarter panel with a paint job so thin, it rusted up on the wheel arch every 3 months). Don't feel obliged to take it to your dealership's workshop - base your choice purely on reputation.

Ouch, sorry to hear your news mate. Stuff like that really gets my goat. Same happened to y missus' car in her works carpark and left a bit of a mess of the rear bumper and corner of the panel.

Look at using Reynolds of Rushock, over near Droitwich, 10 mins from J5 M5. They are VAG approved, and Porsche for that matter, and the chaps there are excellent and straight. They will take you into the bay of you want so you can see the damage up close and will talk you through everything. They have some really nice pictures of cars they have repaired and prepared in their reception area.
