Selling Up - Maybe ;-)

I'm after a consesus here.
I am thinking of selling my roc due to the impending arrival of my second child. I manage ok with my toddler, but i think a newborn baby seat too, might be a hassle too far.
Spec as per my sig, MY10 on a 59 plate, still mint, and <10k on the clock.
So the things putting me off are (In this order):
1). I owe just over £13k to VW finance, and that'll need to be sorted
2). I HATE SELLING CARS - really cannot be doing with the nob heads that'll want to drive it.
3). Not entirely sure what it's worth.
So can anyone offer advice on how they've found the above. Re the Price, Parkers reckon a good private price is £18700 not accounting for the extras like paint, parking sensors. So i'm thinking ~£19200, anyone got any idea what VW might offer me to take it off my hands?
Re the selling on privately, has anyone ever sold & got the buyer to clear the finance, and pay you the balance? Or am I just dreaming?
Cheers Everyone
Be sad to see it go ;-(

sorry to see you're having to contemplate the sale, but wish you luck anyway
With regards to the finance - as a private buyer on a few occasions, even the mention of outstanding finance was enough to put me off to be honest.
What car are you thinking about replacing it with - if it was within the VW empire, it might make the part-ex process a bit easier given the outstanding finance

Yes I did some 15 years ago - to buy. I bought a car at the time by paying the balance to the seller but I dealt directly with VW Finance once the owner identified me as the purchaser settling his agreeement. It was all done in a bank manager's office with funds electronically transferred and confirmed by VW Finance and then the balance handed over. The keys and log book were initially surrendered to the bank manager before any transactions started.
Perhaps worth a phone call to your finance provider to see if they will do it that way. Then a friendly bank manager
plus it was handy for me that we both used the same bank (not branch though) so everything was under one roof.

how about trying "we buy any car"...although they will quote a lowish trade in value, it should be higher than 13k...
dont know how they deal with it owing finance tho.

When I brought my Scirocco, no kidding, they used We Buy Any car to value my old one. Got an amazing deal don't get me wrong imo, but that says what that says. Good or bad.
I hope to get an A5 next. Maybe a year old one, but not within the next few years, so ofc it will depend if they're still making them. The good thing is, they're the same group. I don't think I would sell private. Besides, not many people like the "difference" in my machine, so would just get planks turn up thinking they're "sikk". Or something

22 years ago we sold our Mk 2 Scirocco whem our second kid arrived. After years of Estates and them small Hatchbacks that they could learn on, finally last September we got the Scirocco back.....So be prepared for a long wait!

The answer is simple - don't do it, you can manage.
Just before our second daughter arrived, we swapped a nice practical Astra for a Calibra and then managed with an Alfa GTV, a Ford Cougar and a Mini whilst the kids were small - just a case of sorting your priorities!
It is after all how people managed in the 60's and 70's - our family cars were things like Triumph Heralds and two door Escorts, but we seem to be programmed these days that 2 kids = the need for an estate car or worse an MPV.

Cheers for the thoughts guys. Been away for the weekend, so just came back to a list of 'DON'T SELL' comments.
Re L-Plate. Can't work out if you're taking the mic, or just a plonker. If i wanted an undervalued return, i'd just give it back to VW.

Vw offered me £15.5k over the phone without seeing it or the options etc... when I enquired 3 weeks ago. Mines on 12k 2009 58 plate.

Thanks for the appreciation.
But I suggested
checking - as the price can be better than expected - the point being would you rather give it back to VW for 13K
or take 16-17K from we buy anycar IF that was the choice for example. I have found they offer roughly the equivalent of a trade in price and /or 1-2K below private sale.
You may think 4k is not worth worrying about but happily up for debate on whether to undergo a private sale not knowing who they are or whether they are genuine.
Clearly you didnt actually check their offer price before posting your 'friendly' comments.
