The winner will depend on who plumped up to give one away, that seems to be the way it works on 5th gear. BMW just gave away a 1 series on last weeks so....

I think the biggest question is which type of Scirocco against which type of Mini Cooper S :-

The 2.0T Scirocco (200 bhp) would wipe the floor with the 160 bhp cooper S so I'm guessing they put the 1.4 160bhp Scirocco against the Mini. Given that the Scirocco weights about 100-200Kg more than the Mini it's a safe bet you'll be seeing the Mini as the competition prize!

Personally I'd be keen to see the 210bhp cooper S Works up against the 2.0T 200bhp Scirocco. Taking price/power into account it would be a far fairer comparison IMO.

Mind you after watching that Vid I could be very wrong with my comment about the "2.0T Scirocco wiping the floor with the Mini Cooper S"! That I didn't expect given it's 40 bhp down on power

fingers crossed, living two miles from the mini factory lets hope its the victory for the roc next week to upset the neighbours

I had a few plays with cooper-s'es in my GTi (albeit remapped and trick suspension) and even then they were not easy to sow a clean pair of heels to so I reckon the 2.0 rocco would be about on par even though its better handling (not by much) than a stock GTi.

We will all have to wait until next week.

I'm not too bothered which one wins (it's blatantly determined by who donates the car to give away anyway. "Give us a free car and we'll have it beat the competition in a head to head", sort of thing- maybe i'm just cynical) but it'll be cool to see some good footage of it on track.

I'd tend to agree. If that's the case it's much more likely they'll give away as 2nd hand Mini Cooper S than a brand new Scirocco GT. Mind you if VW are happy to bung them one to give away for advertising purposes then.........

That's a cooper s JCW in that video, you can tell from the particular 17s it has on.

An interesting comparisson, these are the two cars I was comparing before making a purchase.

I've had a couple of minis and loved them to bits but when looking at a new JCW i couldn't help thinking i was being ripped off! To drive... very quick (faster than the roc) and go car handling. power to weight ratio is the main difference.

What made me choose the roc?

More grown up, better value for money, attention to detail, residual value, rarity and I just fancied a change. I was also put off by the mini's very crashy ride (they took me on a stupid test drive route!). Having said that, I've just bought my 19s

Yes, we've just sold a Mini Cooper because we are sick of the crashy ride. What 19s have you bought?

Just checked the clip again and it's definitely looks like a standard 175 bhp Cooper S. It doesn't have the JCW colour coded skirts or bumpers.

From the alloys and Tailpipe I'd say it's the 2.0T Scirocco .

Just seen the rerun of 5th gear and it's definitely a 2.0T as that's the only one to get twin pipes (i think!!).

its going to be a 200ps GT, if its a Works S the one of the other two they ain't gonna have a chance
