RNS 510 not communicating with car
RNS 510 not communicating with car
I installed RNS 510 to my scirocco 3 months ago, but suddenly some issues appeared.
RNS doesn't power on/off along with car ignition, MFD doesn't show any information from unit, steering wheel buttons doesn't work.
VCDS informs that there's no signal:
01305 - Databus for Infotainment
004 - No Signal/Communication
Freeze Frame
Fault Status: 01100100
Fault Priority: 1
Fault Frequency: 2
Reset counter: 247
01300 - Control Module for Navigation with CD-Rom (J401)
004 - No Signal/Communication
Freeze Frame

01304 - Radio
004 - No Signal/Communication

Otherwise it's working fine: unit can be turned on/off with the button in front, navigation's ok etc.
Though I noticed one weird thing today during 1hour drive, unit suddenly just went down two times. After pressing power button it was instantly back alive and music playback continued.
Any ideas what are the most common reasons for RNS 510 not communicating with car/can bus?
And do you possibly have any information regarding "CAN" menu under the 'hidden' service menu?
I'm curious because yesterday I checked and the overall status was "no communication". At this point I disconnected the unit & tried original RCD300 which was perfect.
Next I deleted radio & navigation with VCDS and installed RNS510. After that there was something else (can't remember for sure, maybe "off"..) in service/CAN menu instead of "no communication", but still no co-operation with car.
Is there any possibility that scirocco would "find" the rns 510 without coding via VCDS?
I'll surely re-select radio & nav with VCDS as soon as possible, but I would like to hear your comments & experiences with similar problems. Thanks!
While writing this I thought that perhaps the reason could be in quadlock, if some wires are not properly connected.
If I disconnect the unit once more -> press the wires more firmly -> install radio & navigation with VCDS -> connect RNS => should the unit work immediately?
Reboot is most likely needed but do I have to wait couple of minutes e.g. for MFD screen to turn off or so?

Re: RNS 510 not communicating with car
Have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting the rns, did the unit work properly when you first installed it ?

Re: RNS 510 not communicating with car
So a bit of progress in that the unit (1st time install in car) does power up, but the buttons and screen are unresponsive. No sound comes out. The power then goes only to return some 30 seconds later.
VAGCOM has been set to have Navigation installed, gateway shows no faults, but it cannot connect ot the Nav controller.
Only other things to know are the car has dynaudio / BT and the RCD 510 I'm replaces has always worked and is now back in and working .. .
I am looking at varions firmware issues but I can't access any of the rns screens. So, any ideas what s/w version I need to get a "B" sat nav unit working in a 10 plate 'roc?

Re: RNS 510 not communicating with car
I haven't had time to focus on RNS, so no vag-com connections tried or re-hooking the unit..
But seems that problem has fixed itself more or less. Could it simply be because of the winter/temperature ??
Issue has been gone for several days now, temperature has been around 0 celcius (instead of -25).
I'm starting to doubt does this make any sense at all? Perhaps the reason is in some weird combination of loose quadlock & minus degrees...?
@182_blue, have you tried to install the newest firmware? Or is it so that the unit doesn't accept any dvd/firmware at all?

How long have you had it?, I would claim for it as being faulty if it wasn't long ago.JohnFol wrote:unit bought off fleabay, but owner assures me it was from a car <6 months old and was working

Arrived this week and it's never worked. I think I am coming to the same conclusion . . .

Open a dispute, they should work without any issues when connected, it sounds like something has come adrift inside the unit, eBay usually find in you favour with these things .JohnFol wrote:Arrived this week and it's never worked. I think I am coming to the same conclusion . . .
Re: RNS 510 not communicating with car
I believe I have to take my word back..
No luck getting RNS510 to co-operate with the car, seeems it wasn't the temperature. Navigation works, music plays, SD card reader is perfect and so on, but car simply doesn't recognize the unit.
I also tried the original radio (again) which came with the car and it connects instantly to display and to steering wheel buttons & is visible in VAG-COM.
Seems my unit is broken someway, bought it from the ebay and seller is not replying to emails nor ebay messages...
If somebody knows a fix I'd appreciate the information.
Thanks!

I just bought one myself, and I would be interested to know.

It was Naviplanet2000 or Naviplanet2k or something like that.fattyboombalatty wrote:What was the seller's username?

But frankly speaking I don't know what to say anymore. For last two days every functionality was working...until this morning, same issues again.
What's wrong? Why it suddenly starts to work every now and then?
