Called into my local VW dealer on the way home from work to buy the genuine screen wash they charged £4.20 !!, but for the fact the washer bottle was low i would have told them to keep it, iam sure i have only paid £2 for the genuine stuff before now, how much are you guys paying ??

i paid less than £3 from TPS

I paid just over £3 at VW in Bristol on Thursday.

Maybe I'm odd, but why buy genuine screen wash? Surely a halfords bottle will do the job?

I'm the same. £1 a bottle from tesco.

Whats a decent bottle? I usually go to home bargains for Astonish stuff, but I'm interested in what's put there that's good and why is it worth more? - Guess it's like I was wondering when first reading up on why detailing costs so much etc.

how chav of me....I bought a gallon bottle in Wilkinsons and it wasn't as dear as £4.20

Its specifically formulated not to form deposits like the cheaper stuff which then gets sucked up by the washer pump. The "bits" (deposits coming out of solution) then block the windscreen fan jets. It's base is alcohol, been in use since the late 90's. The rest of the price ..... VW's mark-up. Well to you if you buy. I get it as payment-in-kind for use of my cars at model launches.

Also, those large blue and pink 5ltr bottles which are typically found outside Halfords are designed for temperatures down to -4 and -6 respectively. When reading the label they're classed as an All Seasons screen wash rather than winter.

The winter wash they do with the lower freezing point is much closer to VW prices.

The VW wash is diluted 1 part wash to 2 parts water for -16 so really you're getting 3 litres worth for your money.

Well dug the rococo out this morning after being covered in snow and ice, I freed up the wipers and made sure the headlight washers were not stuck in and the just thought I would test the window washers to see it was frozen up and it worked first time both the windscreen and the headlights :-), this is wthi the proper VW stuff, the wives car has cheap halfords stuff in it and hers are frozen up !

But was hers the right concentration Most people tend to have the same concentration all year round.

Mine is bog standard stuff from Halfords, never froze in any of my cars. Though I do live "in the south of UK".

TBH, never would of thought of going to a dealer to get that kinda stuff.

I always buy bottles of the concentrated stuff. I never buy those 5 litre bottles of ready made up screen wash - you can't be sure how concentrated it is, you can't vary it from winter to summer and you're paying Halfords or whoever for half a bucket of water

Now how much is it at local TPS?

Cheers Blue, I dunno how much of the stuff I'd go through to warrant 10 with total being £23, so I think it might help me out more if I just use one at time if they're around £3. Will see what they say this week at VW.
