Rattling engine

Hi all I have had my R for about 2 weeks now and I had a 2 hour journey home last night. I had to leave the engine on and move my bins and i heard a loud rattling noise from the engine. I just went to the shop today and returned to again hear the same rattling sound. I opened the bonnet and it seems to be the belt (timing or cam I dont know lol).
This is not right is it? What should I do, I have rung my dealer but it looks like i will have to take it back to the dealerships 40 miles away!.

Hi - I've noticed what I reckon is the same noise, like a tinny metallic chatter...I looked on mine and believe its the belt tensioner, as you stand in front of car, looking into engine bay on left just behind the drive belt, theres a metal cylindrical part likea smooth bolt jutting to the right, think it rattles where it touches its guide.
Not sure if its meant to do that or not. If you contact the dealer let me know how you get on!
ps or if theres a diesel-engine like sound, the oil might need checking?

Further to my last comments...realised the noise isn't the belt tensioner.
The noise echoes from under the engine cover etc so difficult to detect/pin point...

I went to the dealer and it turns out the same noise is made in the golf r and 210 bhp engine on idle, it's a weird one but it cleared my mind. Hope that helps.
