Scirocco Central

As much as we all (clearly) love the lines of our cars on this forum, how long will the roc realistically still look up to date and cool?

Cos eventually I want a two litre or dreaming higher an R but not if by the time I can get one it looks like a cardboard box!

Post your estimates in years...

6 months before the new one comes out so possibly late 2013 there are very few cars that can look timeless,but who knows the next scirocco could look terrible. I think its the new range of 3 door style hatchbacks coming over the next few years that could also have an affect e.g i wouldn't have one but the renault megane is quite nice the soon to come Astra 3 door VXR looks good too of course not as classy as the Scirocco

Personaly I think it depend upon how many are on the road. The fewer there are - the more and longer desirable. So come on VW limit the UK allocation and keep the price high - at least for my residual value.

i think the present Roc is a timeless piece of art. what other car on the road has such a fluid, yet angry design and yet accesable for average guys like me?

all cars looks like the smaller version of another. All BMW looks the same, all Mercs looks the same, all Seats looks the same, etc etc

i think the next Roc will look like a coupe version of the golf, with that angular look that extends from the new polo to the new passat. The new tuoreg is like a golf with a higher ground clearance...

I think it depends more upon how the appearance of most other cars on the road changes. As one new style becomes a success and big seller all other manufacturers follow suit with their own versions. These days such changes tend to be evolutionary, gradual changes rather than radical revolutionary changes so becoming dated is something of a slower process and could take many years. And just because a model is still being sold does't mean it can't be outdated.
If for example manufacturers went back to designing cars with large fins on the rear wings (like the yanks did in the 50s) and this became the norm then anything without large fins would look outdated. But this couldn't happen now .....

There is already a number of other car companies producing very similar looking cars to the roc, others in development, that's just the way of the world. So my opinion is that the exclusivity will soon be lost, so vw will soon change the shape. Also they want us to purchase the 'lastest model' and people respond to the desire to have the latest. Plus the roc is not really in the league of ''exclusive'' cars, it's a fun coupe.

Will there be any need for a Roc soon? If the Golf became just a little squatter in appearance, like the Astras and Meganes are starting to look, there'd be no discernable difference in appearance between the Golf and the Roc.

It used to be great to see everyone craning their neck to see a Roc driving past when they were new out, and although it's still admired, the "wow" has gone.

I'd still have one over a Golf right now though.

It'll certainly help, in my view, that the 'Roc doesn't have a 'family face' like most other manufacturers' cars out there - keeps it looking more unique. However, a lot will depend on what else comes along and grabs the 'yoof' vote I think. Another year or two for my money at least, by which time I'll be stepping out of the 'Roc and into...God knows.

Ford Capri ??

I thought to Rocco was a beautiful car when I first saw one at an agricultural show in 2008. I'm determined to get one so the wife said I could have one for my 90th birthday, so I reckon on having at least eight years use out of it. Thinking of getting the 170 diesel DSG.

yes I have noticed current gen cars are looking far sleeker and better for it IMO than previous generations. This is good for aerodynamics and fuel saving however some have lines in the ballpark of the roco.

I still think VW nailed the lines though with the roco, i've even grown to like its' rear end more!

It's the nature of 'progress' that it'll look totally naff in about 10 to 15 years - however, come 2035 or so, it'll have some retro cool! Every time I see a Mk II Scirocco now, I think it looks awesome and I want to have a shot.

Sadly, mine's had a fairly rough 1st year and is never going to be a mint condition classic!

Hey I get the Auto Express delivered every week. They done 111 new cars for 2011 and there was no sign of a new roc.Seen the new passat though,yeuch.
Also,they do a column of new cars coming out with the year that they are due out.ie superminis,4x4,coupes etc and no sign yet of new roc.They list well in advance so that put me off a new beemer. The rocs a classic already
